Job Title: Afterschool Program Counselor

Position Overview: The Afterschool Program Counselor will be responsible for providing the care, safety, and well-being of elementary school-age children during the afterschool program. This position requires an individual who is capable of managing up to 23 children in a group setting while ensuring an engaging, nurturing, and safe environment. The counselor will be expected to communicate effectively with children, staff, and parents, maintain a positive attitude, and be flexible in adapting to daily schedules and activities. A strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to collaborate with others are essential in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and ensure the safety of up to 23 elementary school-age children in a group setting Monday through Friday.
  • Implement daily schedules and activities that promote educational and recreational development.
  • Provide effective classroom management to maintain a positive and organized environment.
  • Demonstrate patience, kindness, and encouragement towards each child.
  • Assist with homework and educational activities as needed.
  • Facilitate group activities, crafts, games, and team-building exercises.
  • Communicate effectively with children, parents, and other staff members.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive atmosphere that values respect, teamwork, and Christian values.
  • Assist in the cleanup of spaces used by children, including classrooms, play areas, and common spaces.
  • Flexibility to adjust to changes in the daily schedule or unexpected situations.
  • Report any concerns related to children’s safety or well-being to the program coordinator or appropriate staff.
  • Exhibit strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage chaotic situations with grace and professionalism.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow counselors and staff to ensure a smooth and positive experience for all participants.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children, especially in a group setting, preferred.
  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to handle multiple children with varying needs.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage children in a positive, supportive manner.
  • Ability to work as a team and collaborate effectively with other staff members.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the program location.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a flexible attitude and adapt to the needs of the program.
  • Ability to manage high-energy environments and work under pressure.
  • Cleaning duties as required to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the program spaces.
  • Must be punctual and dependable, with a strong commitment to attendance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to be on your feet for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry children or equipment up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to participate in active games and activities with children.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, with hours to align with afterschool programming needs (typically 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM). We also would like to hire someone that has flexibility in their availability for any early release days (students get out of school at 11:20), or any day that the school district is closed, and we are open full day.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $12.00 per hour
