Job Responsibilities
This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 164 Waccamaw Medical Park Drive, Conway, SC 29526 and Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 9630 Scipio Lane, Myrtle Beach, SC 29588.
The Office of Mental Health's mission is to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses. We provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.
This position MAY be eligible for SCOMH Student Loan Repayment to cover some of the cost of your outstanding loan(s) balance associated with the completion of a healthcare degree that is relevant to the appliable position.
Serve as an Assertive Community Treatment team member providing evidence-based services in an intensive non-residential treatment and rehabilitative services in accordance with the fidelity model. This is a single fixed point of responsibility for treatment, rehabilitation, and support needs for patients with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) who require higher levels of community care and have not been well supported in lower level of care options.
Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional I:
  • Provide direct services to ACT patients guiding them in the development of skills/strategics towards achieving and maintaining good mental health and facilitating training of independent living skills.
  • Utilize assertive engagement to have patients participate in service.
  • Assist patients with access to community services, resources, agencies and establishing support networks in the community.
  • Complete screenings and assessments for referrals and assist with development and revisions of instructional continuity plans (ICP).
  • Provide family psychoeducation and works with patient's natural support network.
  • Facilitate the person-centered planning process for patients assigned to ACT team member.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, treatment team meetings, pursue professional development and demonstrate effective use of social and interpersonal knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and appreciate of individual and group differences and similarities.
  • Utilize and maintain certification of evidence-based practices.
  • Attend treatment meetings daily and provides consultation regarding complex cases as appropriate.
  • Complete documentation according to State, Federal, Local, OMH, Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance and CARF standards.
  • Ensure timely completion of prior authorizations.
  • Complete all required trainings to include safety, cultural affairs, clinical and Managing Agitated Patients (MAPS).
Minimum and Additional Requirements
  • A master's degree in guidance, counseling or social services.
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in SC within first six months of employment. Either LPC or LSW.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must meet OMH credentialing requirements which include specific graduate course work including Psychopathology/Psychopathology Diagnostics/Clinical Assessments - Practice with Family Therapy (DSM) and medical ethics.
  • Must be able to show one year evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care and working with individuals experiencing severe mental illness. This experience maybe documented as a practicum, internship or post-graduate experience.
  • Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds; ability to see, hear at normal volumes, stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) flights of stairs. Ability to tolerate noise level and circulate in patient areas for long periods of time. Must be able to work with repetitive patient behaviors.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

  • Position is considered essential and may be called back during crisis/disasters/emergencies. Requires flexible schedule.
