This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Inpatient/DOM-SUD Psychiatrists are aligned under the Inpatient Supervisory Program Manager and are bargaining unit employees. Inpatient psychiatrists provide care in accordance with the VA goals of high-quality, Veteran-centered healthcare that embraces the recovery model. Inpatient DOM-SUD psychiatrists evaluate Veterans' mental health symptoms and provide diagnostic evaluation, medication initiations, ongoing medication follow up, monitoring of responses to medication trials, and provide mental health interventions as needed in an acute inpatient mental health setting. They can also conduct lethality assessments, determining appropriateness of medication trials, supportive counseling, further assessment, and follow up. Additionally, they take inpatient call as assigned. Inpatient DOM-SUD psychiatrists function in a collaborative fashion with behavioral health team members, other departments, and medical staff members to provide behavioral health services.
The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Provides direct patient care in an inpatient and residential DOM-SUD psychiatric care setting.
* Maintains competency in all aspects of psychiatric care.
* Maintains currency in medication management, including adverse reactions and their appropriate treatments.
* Uses appropriate documentation to record patients' medical history and all aspects of the patients' Psychiatric course of treatment.
* Proctors psychiatry residents to include didactics and oversight of direct care when interested in training.
* Engages in research as appropriate.
