Overview

Overview:

Location: Riley Hospital in Downtown Indianapolis.

Shift:

8-4:30 M-F but can be somewhat flexible

Occasional Saturday shifts (4hours) but comp time offered during the week to offset this

No holidays currently but subject to change in the future as other disciplines do cover holidays

Roles and Responsibilities:

Provides therapeutic, recreational and leisure services to patients/clients, including development of individual treatment plans. Provides consultation to physicians and others regarding appropriateness of referral to recreational therapy. Documents patient/ client programs and progress, educates the patient/ client and others regarding recreational therapy programs. Willingly participates in related activities in support of patient/ client care, education and department operations. Acts as a resource or mentor and provides functional guidance to the team. Coordinates staff/patient scheduling, orientation and training. Ensures proper clinical documentation and monitors workload to ensure staff utilization.

Depending on unit covering, may be required to obtain “for hire” endorsement on driver’s license to drive a 15-passenger accessible bus. CTRS or eligibility to sit for exam is required; will not be able to start until CTRS is active.

CTRS, may be required to obtain “for hire” endorsement on driver’s license; will be required to obtain car seat specialist certification.

  • Requires certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Bachelors Degree in Therapeutic Recreation required.
  • Requires 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Requires strong knowledge of Recreation Therapy Standards of Care.
