The Behavior Technician (RBT) provides direct one-to-one and small group behavioral intervention services to clients diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and related developmental disabilities. Services focus on improving communication, adaptive behavior, social-emotional skills, cognition, and self-care using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
The Behavior Technician is responsible for the direct implementation of individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and skill acquisition programs under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This role requires accurate data collection, professional collaboration with families and team members, and consistent communication with the Supervising BCBA.
Essential Functions
- Deliver individualized ABA therapy in home, school, or community settings as directed by the Supervising BCBA.
- Implement treatment and behavior intervention plans as written and trained.
- Collect, record, and graph data accurately for all targeted goals and behaviors.
- Maintain and update client program materials and data collection systems.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with the Supervising BCBA regarding client progress and concerns.
- Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and performance evaluations as required by the BACB and Butterfly Evolutions, LLC.
- Maintain client dignity, confidentiality, and safety at all times.
- Complete and submit session notes and documentation in compliance with company policy, BACB requirements, and HIPAA regulations.
- Adhere to all ethical and professional standards outlined by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) and Maryland COMAR 10.63.
- Maintain professional conduct and positive relationships with families, colleagues, and community partners.

Required Education and Experience
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, child development, or related field preferred.
- Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) required within 90 days of hire.
- At least one year of experience working with children or individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Work may occur in client homes, schools, and community settings.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and engage in physical activity during sessions (e.g., play-based instruction).
- Exposure to behaviors that may include physical aggression, self-injury, or property disruption.
- Must be able to maintain attention and flexibility in fast-paced and changing environments.
- Requires sitting, standing, and active movement for extended periods.
- Hazards: Incumbent may be exposed to contact with individuals displaying physically aggressive, self-abusive, or socially undesirable behavior.
- Ability and willingness to travel between client locations for appointments as assigned in a punctual manner.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position, with hours determined by client scheduling needs. Sessions may occur during weekdays, and/or evenings. Growth to full-time employment may be available based on performance, caseload expansion, and organizational need.
Travel Requirements
Travel is required between client locations across the Maryland metropolitan area (Prince George’s County, Montgomery County, Anne Arundel County, and surrounding areas).
Cases are assigned by geographic area whenever possible to minimize travel and support work-life balance.
Reliable personal transportation, a valid driver’s license, and proof of current auto insurance are required.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
Must successfully pass a criminal background check in accordance with Maryland COMAR 10.63.03.05.
Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred (training may be provided).
