As a Camper Support Counselor your mission is to support the day-to-day care of campers and facilitate a safe and supportive environment to provide best care for campers during their stay at Woodward Camp. To achieve this, a Camper Support Counselor will understand and execute safety protocols and processes, be mindful, aware, and present across all camp facilities, including, but not limited to, their assigned cabin or zones. Camper Support Counselors will stay on campus in designated staff housing with other team members and will oversee assigned cabin unit(s) and be present throughout the day for campers during instruction and in free time and recreation. Camper Support Counselors are positive role models at camp to help build an environment of safety, connection, and lifelong skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Reside in staff-housing, with potential to be placed in cabin with campers as needed.
  • Follow department schedules; attend trainings, be present for scheduled meetings for updates and staff support.
  • Help facilitate supportive environment across camp facilities and throughout the camp day.
  • Work with a team of camp nurses and athletic trainers to ensure the best health care is provided to campers .
  • Collaborate with, and educate, camp staff on behavior management and de-escalation techniques.
  • Execute plans in a developmentally appropriate manner, with attention to the camper’s physical, social, and emotional needs.
  • Responsible for documenting all camper encounters and parent communications.
  • Responsible for communicating with Supervisors, Manager and Director.
  • Responsible for self-care, communicating needs around this.
  • Support campers experiencing homesickness, stress, peer-conflicts.
  • Attend camper orientation to provide education on safety, health, and wellness.
  • Supervise and support campers at mealtimes, instruction, recreation activities, in and around the cabins.
  • Attend cabin check and nightly cabin circle for connection building and support of cabin counselor
  • Support medical team and Athletic Trainers to ensure campers have received their daily medication(s), visited the training room for evaluations.
  • Actively engaged with campers; ensure they have signed up for at least one rec activity and have taken care of their basic needs: adequate water, food and rest throughout the day and week.
  • Execute camp disciplinary escalation process as needed
  • Execute the daily routine for health and wellness staff throughout camp.
  • Provide a feedback report to evaluate, evolve, and elevate all camper experience, including parent communication.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of working with kids and/or teens.
  • Understanding of appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Provide work related references upon request.
  • Employment in this position is contingent upon successful completion of all pre-hire background checks, including criminal history clearance through the Pennsylvania State Police (PATCH), child abuse clearance through the Department of Public Welfare, Motor Vehicle Record if required by position and federal background screening via FBI fingerprinting.

Preferred
Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a camp environment is preferred.
  • High School degree or equivalent preferred

PRE-REQUISITES
Must have or be able to obtain the following prior to starting work:
Woodward will supply information to assist you in obtaining these if needed.
  • Mandated Reporter Training Certificate
  • Safesport Training Certificate

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Physical Capabilities: bend, twist, push, pull, stand, lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be comfortable working in an outdoor and indoor all-season environment.
  • Adhere to all workplace safety practices, expectations, and guidelines.
  • Primary on-site work location: Woodward, PA

  • Preferred Commitment: Minimum 3 week
