Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Peer Support Specialist to join our behavioral health team. In this role, you will leverage your lived experience and professional training to provide peer-led support, guidance, and mentorship to individuals navigating mental health, substance use, and behavioral challenges. The ideal candidate will possess strong crisis intervention skills and a deep understanding of behavioral health principles, fostering a supportive environment that promotes recovery and resilience. Responsibilities
- Provide peer-led support and mentorship to individuals experiencing mental health or substance use challenges.
- Assist clients in developing coping strategies and recovery plans through motivational interviewing techniques.
- Respond effectively to crisis situations, utilizing crisis management skills to ensure safety and stabilization.
- Facilitate group sessions or one-on-one meetings focused on recovery, wellness, and social engagement.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to coordinate care plans and share relevant client information using EHR systems.
- Advocate for clients’ needs within the healthcare system and community resources.
- Maintain accurate documentation of interactions and progress notes in compliance with organizational policies.
- Participate in ongoing training related to behavioral health, addiction counseling, social work practices, and crisis intervention.
Experience
- Lived experience with mental health recovery or substance use recovery is highly valued.
- Prior experience in behavioral health, mental health counseling, addiction counseling, or social work is preferred.
- Familiarity with crisis intervention and crisis management techniques.
- Knowledge of motivational interviewing methods and behavioral health best practices.
- Experience working with EHR systems is advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse populations.
- Certification or training in mental health counseling, social work, or related fields is a plus but not required. This role is vital in supporting individuals on their path to recovery by providing empathetic peer support grounded in lived experience and professional expertise.
