Position Summary
The Peer Support Specialist shall provide a safe, supportive and caring environment in which the clients will continue their recovery. The Peer Support Specialist is expected to cooperate as a team member with the therapist on call. The Peer Support Specialist has knowledge of and is culturally sensitive to clients and employees. They are knowledgeable of the treatment process and the issues presented by clients participating in the Wings Recovery treatment program. The Peer Support Specialist is responsible for providing a safe, comfortable and clean residence for clients during their treatment. Clients live independently, cooking for themselves and managing their own medication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct orientation for new clients that includes reviewing safety and evacuation plan, room and bed assignment, safe set up, refrigerator and pantry space assignment and walk through of the house.
- Conduct urinalysis and Blood Alcohol tests as indicated, either after a pass or randomly as behavior dictates
- Engage with clients to build relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries
- Provide each new client with a clean bed and towels
- Supervise clients, enforcing house rules and guidelines
- Provide oversight by holding clients accountable for completing daily chores
- Maintain a curfew as indicated to ensure quiet hours are respected and clients get proper rest
- Transport clients to and from daytime programming in company vehicle
- Provide transport to weekly grocery shopping and/or errands at your discretion as time permits
- Ensure any company vehicle issues are reported and resolved
- Ensure Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) are complete
- Be vigilant of changes in behavior, reporting them to the treatment team at Wings Recovery
- Provide effective crisis intervention
- Investigate and resolve client complaints
- Host weekly client meetings to discuss issues and client requests
- Keep an inventory of household items and replenish as necessary
- Report house maintenance issues in a timely manner and coordinate repairs with Operations Manager
- Maintain good relations with neighbors
- Attend weekly staff meetings to discuss open issues
- Maintain an alcohol and drug free environment for clients
- Peer Support Specialist is also expected to remain sober during their employment and acknowledges there will be random drug testing
Qualifications
- Possess a valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record.
- Preferably previous experience working in the field of recovery
- Ability to communicate effectively and develop rapport with clients in a treatment setting
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, supervisors and clinical team.
