Job description:

All Temporary/Relief Pharmacy Technicians assigned to the correctional facility must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • At least 24 continuous months of experience within the last 3 years performing similar services in a public or private institution.
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid Pharmacy Technician license issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy throughout the duration of the assignment.
  • Must be proficient in English able to read, write, speak, and comprehend oral and written instructions clearly and effectively.
  • Any Pharmacy Technician who does not meet these qualifications will not be allowed to perform services under this contract.

Job Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Pharmacist-in-Charge, Pharmacist, or designated staff, the Temporary/Relief Pharmacy Technician will provide services that fall within the legal scope of practice, following all federal and state regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures.

Key duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Receive and verify prescription/medical orders.
  • Gather and document new patient/youth information (e.g., diagnosis, allergies, medical history).
  • Review prescriptions for accuracy, completeness, legality, and authenticity.
  • Enter prescription data into patient profiles.
  • Calibrate equipment required for preparation or compounding.
  • Compound medications according to formulas and directions.
  • Measure or count dosage forms for dispensing.
  • Record preparation of various dosage forms and controlled substances.
  • Label and package medications, applying all required auxiliary labels.
  • Maintain and update drug and supply inventory records.
  • Deliver medications to clinical staff and assist in organization.
  • Monitor and remove expired medications from inventory.
  • Assist pharmacists in resolving medication-related issues and improving patient outcomes.
  • Perform intermediate quality checks during prescription processing.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervising staff.
