Family Support Specialist/Certified Peer Support Specialist

Multicultural Counseling Center is now hiring Family Support Specialists/Certified Peer Support Specialist.

The Family Support Specialist/Certified Peer Support Specialist (FSS/CPSS) will work with other dedicated professionals who share their passion for helping families in need. The FSS/CPSS is responsible for assisting community members achieve self-reliance by offering direct services to families. They accomplish this through coaching, mentoring, role modeling, and as appropriate, using their own recovery stories as a recovery tool, Family Support Specialists and Certified Peer Support Specialist assist clients with their recovery goals.

Job Details:
Work Schedule: Flexible and as follows:
20-30 hours per week
Pay: $22-$24/hour (PSS certified)
Location: Hybrid model (home office and in-person)
Direct Supervisor: Family Support Specialist Supervisor

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Must have personal experience or caregiver experience with mental health/substance use
  • Must have personal experience navigating the social services and justice systems
  • Strong work ethic and service skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer literacy skills
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong record-keeping and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven work experience as a Peer Support Specialist
  • Two years or more of Case Management or Social Work experience

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist families in developing skills in areas including:

1. Creation of recovery goals2. Daily and community living, including, when age appropriate, independently obtaining food, clothing, housing, medical care, employment, etc.3. Socialization4. Adaptation and problem-solving5. Development and maintenance of healthy relationships and communication6. Combating negative self-talk and facing fears7. Regulation of emotions, including anger management8. Pursuing educational goals9. Securing and maintaining employment and overcoming job-related anxiety (i.e. emotional and social skills necessary to obtain and maintain employment)10. Provide symptom monitoring and crisis prevention, assist clients with recognition of health issues impacting them and with symptom management.

  • Maintain appropriate number of weekly billable hours for direct services provided.
  • Maintain compliance with CEU requirements for FSS/CPSS.
  • Attending all staff, training and management meetings.
