About Job

Performs mental health services for severe adult mentally ill clients involved in criminal justice system. Work involves conducting interviews and clinical assessments; site-crisis coverage for referrals and provision of continuity of care to referred mental health individuals in crisis. Also provides jail outreach work. Works under moderate supervision of the Supervisor with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment in carrying out details of the work.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED::

  • Identifies and screens individuals in the legal system for mental illness
  • Provides on-site assessments and develops intervention
  • Provides crisis assessments and supports as deemed necessary
  • Coordinates referrals and case management
  • Provides continuity of care services with all area jails
  • Prepares progress notes and other required documentation
  • Advocates with legal entities for persons with mental illness
  • Provides ongoing case management upon release from jail


Experience and Training:

Requires successful experience in providing mental health services for persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses, a working knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis, psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention.

Education:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor or Master’s Degree with a major in behavioral, social sciences, humanities, or education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES::

  • Knowledge of mental illness and emotional components of physical illness; psychiatric diagnosis, psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention.
  • Demonstrated skill in interviewing and reporting results of interviews.
  • Considerable ability to work cooperatively and effectively with professional personnel (i.e. jail staff, etc); to exercise tact, initiate, and good judgment in dealing with clients and relatives.
  • Knowledge to prepare reports and make recommendations for administrative use.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively; to relate to people and to interact with consumers.
  • Must have and maintain a level of general health that permits the performance of job duties.

Part-Time

Salary: $25,000

Schedule: TBD; some weekends
