About Job

Primary responsibility - Combined roll of providing re-entry planning for incarcerated individuals in the Puyallup City Jail and providing peer support for individuals in our mental health and substance use disorder programs.

- Preferred is a Certified Peer Counselor who has had an agency affiliated registration in the past.

```General Duties```
- Provide peer counseling and support to individuals struggling with addiction or mental health issues
- Conduct crisis interventions and assist individuals in managing and coping with crises
- Serve as a mentor and advocate for clients, providing guidance and support in their recovery journey
- Collaborate with other professionals in the field, such as social workers and mental health counselors, to develop comprehensive treatment plans
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to help clients explore their goals, values, and motivations for change
- Assist in crisis management situations, including assessing risk and implementing appropriate interventions
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of client interactions and progress

```Requirements```
- Previous experience in addiction counseling, crisis intervention, or a related field is preferred
- Knowledge of behavioral health systems and resources
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with other professionals
- Empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach to supporting individuals in their recovery journey
- Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and client needs
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for accurate documentation

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour
