Hospice Spiritual Counselor

Everlight Hospice is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and dedicated Hospice Spiritual Counselor to join our growing interdisciplinary team. This position provides spiritual and emotional support to hospice patients and their families throughout the end-of-life journey while ensuring care is delivered in accordance with CMS and Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR).

We are looking for someone who is empathetic, patient-centered, and experienced in hospice care. Hospice experience is required for this role.

Responsibilities

• Provide spiritual care, counseling, and emotional support to hospice patients, families, and caregivers
• Assess and document spiritual needs in the EMR in compliance with CMS and OAR standards
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary hospice team to support holistic patient care
• Offer prayer, spiritual guidance, religious or non-religious rituals based on patient preferences
• Provide grief support and bereavement counseling
• Participate in IDG/interdisciplinary meetings
• Educate staff and volunteers regarding spiritual care at end of life
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation and ensure HIPAA compliance

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 years of hospice experience required
• Experience in chaplaincy, pastoral care, spiritual counseling, or grief support
• Master’s degree in Theology, Divinity, Pastoral Care, or related field preferred
• Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) preferred
• Strong understanding of hospice philosophy and end-of-life care
• Knowledge of Medicare Hospice Benefit and Oregon hospice regulations preferred
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work respectfully with individuals of diverse cultural, spiritual, and religious backgrounds
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance required

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with bereavement support and grief counseling
• Training in crisis intervention and pastoral care for terminally ill patients

Work Environment

This is a field-based position involving visits to patient homes, assisted living communities, and skilled nursing facilities. Flexibility for occasional evenings, weekends, or on-call support may be required.

Pay: $28.00 - $34.00 per hour
