This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health (OMH), Coastal Empire Community Mental Health Center (CEMHC), 1050 Ribaut Road, Beaufort, SC 29902.
Under direct supervision of the Clinic Director, you will provide evidence based mental health counseling, complete clinical assessments, crisis intervention, and properly manage assigned cases for adults, children, adolescents, youth in transition, and families open to Coastal Empire Community Mental Health Center.
Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional I - Adult Treatment
- Direct Care: Provide recovery-oriented services such as Assessment, Group, Individual/Family therapy, Crisis Management, and other services on an as-needed basis; advocate for clients; serve as liaison with in-patient and/or other health centers when client is receiving services from those centers; coordinate with case management services for any monetary, housing, medication or other needs of clients; serve as liaison to probate judge, law enforcement, DSS, or other county organization; and meet the minimum benchmark for productivity requirements.
- Professional/Clinical Development: Participate in activities promoting ongoing professional development and training. Perform the functions of a center mental health treatment provider in an efficient manner. Attend to daily schedule of patient to daily schedule of patient appointments, ensure patients are seen as often as needed, and address with patient any barriers to seeking services at CECMHC.
- Quality Assurance Maintain client service records in accordance with SCOMH QA standards; adhere to OMH, Medicare, Medicaid and other Insurance regulations regarding documentation and billing of clinical services.
- Corporate Compliance: Demonstrate thorough understanding of corporate compliance issues and complies with all OMH and Center corporate compliance requirements.
This position MAY be eligible for SCOMH Student Loan Repayment to cover some of the cost of your outstanding loan(s) balance associated with the completion of a healthcare degree that is relevant to the applicable position.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
- A master's degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
Additional Comments
This position may require some in-state travel.
Post hire, employees must:
- Be able to complete Managing Agitation in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) certification
- Have knowledge of the theories and practices of psychopathology and psychotherapy necessary to treat persons with mental illness and/or chemical dependencies in a community setting.
- Be able to assess, diagnose and plan appropriate treatment for clients and work effectively with their family members.

In order to be credentialed for core services as a Mental Health Professional at the SC Office of Mental Health, applicants must provide evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care. This experience may be documented as a practicum or internship during graduate program, or post-graduate clinical experience.
