About the Role
A nonprofit OASAS-licensed substance use disorder treatment program in East Harlem is hiring a Substance Use Counselor to deliver counseling services to a diverse adult population. This is a full-time, union-protected role with a stable Monday–Friday schedule, full benefits, and the opportunity to carry a meaningful caseload within a supportive multidisciplinary team.
What You'll Do
- Provide substance use counseling services to patients and families, including psychosocial assessment, short- and long-term treatment, crisis intervention, and individual and group counseling
- Carry an active caseload and complete all intake forms
- Conduct intake assessments, develop treatment plans, complete reviews, and write progress notes
- Educate patients on substance use/abuse, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), and Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT)
- Manage written and electronic patient records; work within STARS and HRA2010E
- Conduct weekly random urines and monitor medication
- Participate in weekly staff meetings, case conferences, internal/external trainings, and monthly supervision with the Director
- Participate in agency-sponsored and community outreach events such as health fairs and grand rounds
- Travel off-site for outreach, trainings, and conferences as needed
- Provide reports, case records, documentation, and statistics as required
- Apply working knowledge of referral processes for individual aftercare and other concrete services
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director
What We're Looking For
Required:
- Bachelor's degree and/or CASAC / CASAC-T credential
- CASAC-T candidates: minimum 2 years of experience working with substance use / co-occurring disorder populations
- Counseling experience required
- At least 2 years of experience in the alcohol and substance use services field
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Computer proficiency
Preferred:
- Experience with STARS, HRA2010E, and OASAS reporting systems
- Familiarity with co-occurring disorders and MAT-supported treatment
Compensation & Benefits
- $58,000–$60,000/year
