Overview
Join our dynamic behavioral health team as a Substance Abuse Counselor specializing in addiction and mental health treatment. In this vital role, you will provide compassionate, evidence-based counseling to individuals and families struggling with substance use disorders. Your expertise will help clients navigate recovery, develop coping strategies, and achieve lasting wellness. Duties
- Conduct comprehensive intake assessments to evaluate clients’ substance use history, mental health status, and overall needs.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans using evidence-based practices such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and behavioral therapy.
- Provide individual, group, and family counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, mental health support, and relapse prevention.
- Complete timely, accurate clinical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and assessments in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.
- Facilitate crisis intervention to ensure client safety during acute episodes or emotional distress.
- Maintain accurate medical records while adhering to HIPAA regulations and confidentiality standards.
- Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams including medical professionals, social workers, and community resources to support holistic recovery.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including data collection and outcome monitoring, to enhance service delivery.
Experience & Qualifications
- Required: Active Maryland Board certification (or eligibility) as one of the following:
- Certified Associate Counselor – Alcohol & Drug (CAC-AD)
- Certified Supervised Counselor – Alcohol & Drug (CSC-AD)
- Alcohol & Drug Trainee (ADT)
- Demonstrated ability to complete intake assessments, write clinical notes, and develop treatment plans in a timely and compliant manner.
- Proven experience in addiction counseling, behavioral health, or mental health settings with a focus on substance use treatment.
- Strong knowledge of psychotherapeutic techniques including motivational interviewing, crisis intervention, and behavioral therapies.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, ICD-10 coding, CPT billing codes, and electronic medical records systems.
- Experience working in diverse settings such as hospitals, outpatient clinics, community programs, or residential treatment is preferred.
- Strong assessment, diagnostic, and case management skills.
- Thorough understanding of HIPAA compliance and best practices in clinical documentation and patient confidentiality.
Pay: $30.00 - $41.32 per hour
