Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Part-Time Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC-A / CSAC-S) to join our dynamic behavioral health team. In this role, you will provide compassionate, evidence-based addiction and mental health counseling to individuals and groups, supporting their journey toward recovery and well-being. You will utilize your expertise in psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, and crisis intervention to deliver personalized care in a variety of settings, including outpatient clinics, community programs, and hospital environments. Duties
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to determine substance use and mental health needs, utilizing diagnostic tools aligned with ICD-10 coding standards.
- Deliver individual and group counseling sessions employing cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, and applied behavior analysis techniques to promote positive behavioral change.
- Implement crisis management strategies and crisis intervention techniques to support clients experiencing acute distress or relapse episodes.
- Facilitate child & family counseling sessions to strengthen family dynamics and support systems for clients of all ages.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation, including intake forms, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on case management efforts, ensuring coordinated care across behavioral health, medical records, and addiction medicine services.
- Participate in research activities or data collection projects related to addiction counseling outcomes or behavioral health interventions.
Requirements
- Current certification as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC-A or CSAC-S) with valid licensure or registration as required by state law.
- Proven experience in addiction counseling, mental health counseling, or behavioral health settings; hospital experience is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of psychotherapy modalities such as motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and behavioral management techniques.
- Familiarity with crisis intervention methods, trauma-informed care including PTSD care strategies, and home & community care experience.
- Ability to perform patient assessments using diagnostic evaluation tools aligned with ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10).
- Excellent communication skills for intake procedures, patient education, and collaboration with healthcare teams.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA compliance standards, and medical documentation practices.
