The Cath Lab Scrub Technician is a vital member of the care team, responsible for maintaining a sterile environment in the procedure rooms and ensuring that all necessary instruments and equipment are readily available during procedures performed in the Cath Lab. The technician works closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide safe and efficient care.
The Cath Lab Scrub Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring successful outcomes in the Cath Lab and requires a commitment to patient safety. Performs procedures to assist in diagnosing and treatment of patients. Monitors and record hemodynamic parameters associated with Cath Lab procedures.
- Assisting physician in conducting invasive tests and interventional procedures in the Cath Lab, under supervision
- Provides and documents correct hemodynamic data and other required information to interpreting provider
- Responsible for scrubbing in the procedure room and assuring that sterility is maintained
- Setting up the sterile table
- Prepare instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for procedures
- Ensures proper handling, cleaning, and processing of instruments post-procedure
- Assists with "turning over" of the procedure room between cases to ensure readiness for the next procedure
- Performs equipment cleaning, stocking, and readiness checks
- Maintains patient care areas are in a clean and organized state
- Assist the rest of the care team within your scope of practice when needed
- Ensure that all required supplies are stocked in their appropriate location
- Ensure that all instruments are operational by sending out those that need repair
- Position is scheduled for Call shifts
Education Requirements:
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent; Graduation from an accredited school for Surgical Technician, general education
License or Certification Requirements:
- Required: Certification; Certified Surgical Technician
Experience Requirements:
- Required: Six (6) months experience as an OR Surgical Technician or Cath Lab Technician with certification
- Preferred: One (1) year of experience as an OR Surgical Technician or Cath Lab Technician with certification
Knowledge:
- Comprehensive expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniques
- Mastery of the names, functions, and proper handling of surgical instruments, specifically those used in the Cath Lab service line
- A strong foundation in human anatomy and physiology to accurately position patients and anticipate a Physicians next steps
- Detailed understanding of perioperative steps (pre-op, intra-op, post-op)
- Proficiency in medical terminology to ensure clear communication with the Cath Lab team
- Understanding of Universal Precautions
- Knowledge of decontamination and sterilization methods to ensure equipment is ready for use
- Understanding of AORN and OSHA standards for infection control and hazardous waste disposal

Work Environment: You must remain professional and focused while managing the emotions of the patient. You will work closely with our Cardiologist, Nurses, and Anesthesiologists. Collaboration and communication are vital
