Position Summary

The Special Education Aide (SEA) assists the teaching staff in assuring the effective implementation of the individual education and behavioral plans of a student. This position is assigned to a student rather than building wide or classroom wide support.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Assists students in participating in daily routines and recreational activities.
  2. Supports the teaching team in behavioral classroom management and the effective implementation of students' Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  3. Aid students in completing their daily lesson plans with interventions and adaptations designed by the Special Education Teacher/Behavioral Health Specialist.
  4. Communicates with team members regarding students' progress verbally and through written documentation such as completing daily ACCESS notes.
  5. Always maintains visual and auditory contact with students during the school day (unless otherwise arranged with staff).
  6. Utilizes technology through electronic documentation, electronic communication, and use of the internet to supplement programming.
  7. Receives supervision and communicates with supervisor on an ongoing basis throughout the week regarding program matters and professional development.
  8. Assures the continuous safety of all students by following all risk management policies and safety procedures designed by the program.
  9. Integrate experiential education into students' daily programming and demonstrates cultural sensitivity.

Qualifications

Education/Credentials/Licensure:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's degree in a human services field preferred.
  • Valid driver's license, safe driving record, and current auto insurance.

Experience

  • Experience working with children required.
  • Experience working in a school setting with individuals on the autism spectrum preferred.

Clearances

  • State Police
  • FBI
  • Child Abuse Clearances
  • Mandated Reporter - Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse training certificate and/or statement

Working Conditions

  • Physical Demands. This position requires a moderate to high level of physical activity. Must meet minimum requirements for Hearing, Speech and Vision.
  • Environmental. School and community.
  • Working Hours. As assigned.
