Full Time Behavior Analyst

Specialized Intervention for Severe Behavior Program (inpatient & outpatient)

We’re seeking compassionate, motivated, and a dedicated Behavior Analyst (i.e., a BCBA) to join Michigan’s first hospital-based Specialized Intervention for Severe Behavior Program.

Our program specializes in the comprehensive assessment and treatment of children and young adults with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who present with complex and severe challenging behavior. We provide intensive, individualized care within a structured, multidisciplinary model grounded in applied behavior analysis (ABA). Behavior Analysts conduct initial and ongoing training of behavior technicians and provides direct supervision of the development and implementation of assessment and treatment protocols in collaboration with Senior Behavior Analysts (i.e., a BCBA-D) within a multidisciplinary hospital team.

We are looking for an experienced leader who brings clinical expertise in the assessment and treatment of complex and severe challenging behavior. Preference is given to candidates who have prior training experience at an established severe behavior program, proven leadership experience in a behavioral health setting, and previous experience training and supervising behavior technicians.

This is a full-time position (M-F, 8:30am – 4:30pm). Because this position is within an inpatient unit, the individual will be expected to participate in an on-call schedule and potentially work some weekends and a rotating holiday schedule.

Duties

  • Conduct initial and ongoing training and supervision of behavior technicians;
  • Coordinate and direct patient intake and discharge activities;
  • Coordinate and direct assessment and treatment procedures (in collaboration with Senior Behavior Analysts) and assist with behavior technician implementation as needed;
  • Provide direct supervision of the development and implementation of assessment and treatment protocols;
  • Review and edit initial drafts of session materials, session descriptions, and progress notes;
  • Review assessment and treatment data to perform analysis of findings;
  • Monitor and ensure the fidelity of assessment and treatment procedures;
  • Develop and refine skill-acquisition and behavior-reduction programs;
  • Direct or conduct training of caregivers;
  • Support daily administration needs including managing staff and patient schedules, interviewing/hiring, overseeing implementation of clinic policies and procedures, providing tours, etc.;
  • Coordinate/supervise organization and maintenance of treatment materials and equipment, creation of data-collection systems;
  • Participate in activities such as administrative meetings, leadership meetings, peer-review meetings, intake/discharge planning;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable ethical codes of conduct;
  • Demonstrates exceptional leadership abilities and is skilled at relating well to staff;
  • Works cooperatively and effectively with other team members in the hospital while contributing to a collaborative work environment;
  • Engages in conflict resolution skills to encourage open communication while maintaining objectivity;
  • Aligns work with strategic goals to meet Key Performance Indicators;
  • Looks for ways to improve and promote quality through improving processes, products, and services;
  • Develops supervisee's skills and encourages growth while including supervisees in strategic planning;
  • Provides effective supervision and regular performance feedback of direct care worker’s and interns according to applicable supervision standards;
  • Properly documents all supervision activities;
  • Sets expectations and monitors delegated activities;
  • Completes tasks within required guidelines;
  • Assists in departmental compliance with Joint Commission, Medicare Conditions of Participation; State standards; and Federal standards;
  • Demonstrates the ability to identify and solve problems; using initiative and sound judgment to reach decisions;
  • Accepts and acts upon constructive criticism to upgrade abilities;
  • Adjusts work schedule to meet hospital needs;
  • Attends, as required, scheduled meetings and in-services;
  • Contributes to the maintenance of a safe environment in the hospital for patients and others;
  • Addresses physicians, visitors, patients and families in a positive and courteous manner;
  • Provides a consistent effort to maintain a steady level of productivity;
  • Performs other specified duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field required;
  • Be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Licensed Behavioral Analyst (LBA) in the State of Michigan (in good standing);
  • Pass a background check;
  • Pass a drug screening;

Preferred:

  • Prior training or experience at an established severe behavior program;
  • Proven leadership experience in a behavioral health setting with at least two years of related professional experience;
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and best practices in pediatric mental health and developmental disability services, or a willingness to learn;
  • Previous experience training and supervising behavior technicians;
  • Have a current and valid BLS certification.
