Position Summary

At New Dimensions Charter School, our mission is to nurture every student, every day to develop strong character, academic excellence, and good citizenship.

The Middle School Guidance Counselor plays a vital role in supporting the whole child by promoting academic success, strengthening character development, and fostering social-emotional growth. As part of the NDS Warrior Family, the counselor will work collaboratively with students, staff, families, and community partners to ensure each student is supported, valued, and prepared for high school and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Excellence

Assist students with goal setting, academic planning, and progress monitoring
  • Support teachers in identifying and addressing academic barriers
  • Participate in MTSS/Student Support Team meetings
  • Use data to identify students in need of interventions
  • Support high school transition planning

Strong Character Development

Implement character education and social-emotional learning initiatives
  • Provide individual and small group counseling focused on responsibility, respect, perseverance, and citizenship
  • Promote positive peer relationships and conflict resolution skills
  • Support school-wide initiatives that build leadership and integrity

Good Citizenship & Community

Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive school climate
  • Partner with families to strengthen home-school communication
  • Coordinate referrals to outside agencies when needed
  • Support community service initiatives and programs that encourage civic responsibility

Social-Emotional & Mental Health Support

Provide crisis intervention and follow-up support
  • Collaborate with on-campus mental health providers and outside partners
  • Help streamline referral processes for student services
  • Promote wellness initiatives that support emotional well-being

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in School Counseling or related field
  • Valid North Carolina School Counselor license (or ability to obtain)
  • Experience working with middle school students preferred
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
