Position Description:
The Victim Counselor specializing in family violence provides critical support and guidance to individuals affected by domestic abuse and related crimes. This role involves offering emotional support, crisis intervention, and advocacy to victims, helping them navigate the complexities of their circumstances.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to understand the needs and experiences of victims of family violence.
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to empower victims and promote healing.
- Develop safety plans and connect clients with necessary resources, including legal assistance, shelter, and community services.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, legal entities, and community organizations to advocate for victims' rights and ensure a coordinated response.
- Facilitate educational workshops on awareness, prevention, and coping strategies related to family violence.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and progress.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Experience working with victims of crime, particularly in family violence situations.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and crisis intervention techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
- Knowledge of local laws, resources, and support systems for victims of domestic violence.
This position plays a vital role in supporting survivors on their journey to recovery and empowerment, fostering a safe and supportive environment for healing.

1. Employee must demonstrate knowledge of and performance in accordance with the philosophy of compassion, caring and respect of the welfare and dignity of others, including clients of agency, as well as staff and volunteers.
2. Must embody the values of trauma informed care on an agency wide level and perform all duties with a victim centered approach and discipline.
3. Must display a non-judgmental acceptance of all clients/volunteers/staff/co-workers.
4. Maintain professional communication with all staff and clients.
5. Commit to a providing and/or supporting staff in providing empowerment based voluntary services.
6. Maintain and support a culture of staff wellness by creating a professional rapport in working relationships, displaying appropriate and consistently positive attitude, and remaining composed during stressful situations.
7. Always employ strategies of problem solving and smart, efficient solutions identifying new and improved ways of delivering the highest quality services to agency clients.
8. Ask for assistance when needed.
9. Maintain client and agency confidentiality and client privilege at all times.
10. Maintain knowledge of current family violence and sexual assault laws. Pay: From $62,000.00 per year
