We have an exciting opportunity for three (3) Counselor positions. One (1) general Counselor position will serve our campuses District Wide, one (1) general Counselor position will be located at our campus in Temecula, CA, and one (1) Counselor (Puente) position will be located at our campus in San Jacinto, CA. The ideal candidate is student-oriented in their approach and dedicated to student success and will be skilled in generating student engagement in learning and will create welcoming learning environments that are equity-based and culturally affirming. These positions will perform a full range of counseling functions with a diverse community college population. This includes a significant amount of student contact as well as a range of additional duties. Counselors are expected to participate in college governance through Academic Senate appointments to standing committees, and/or a variety of task forces and act as a liaison to instructional departments. The assignment may include a mixture of day, evening, multi-campus and off-campus work with face to face and/or online counseling appointments.Initial placement on the salary schedule will be commensurate with education and experience, not to exceed step five (5) on the assigned salary schedule. Step five (5) may be exceeded if the district determines an extraordinary need, or circumstance warrants a higher placement. These are full-time tenure-track non-teaching academic positions. Full-time counselors are assigned 1372 hours per academic year which equates to 196 service days and are coordinated with the supervising administrator. While one of these vacancies is expected to be at the Temecula Valley Campus, one at the San Jacinto Campus, and the other to serve District Wide, applicants may be assigned to any district facility. The start date for this position will be July 1, 2026 (Fall 2026). Additional openings that become available prior to the end of the hiring process may also be filled from the qualified applicants. The omission of specific statements and duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this class.Academic counseling: Provide group orientations to new students including an overview of the college experience, college regulations, and provide assistance with planning first semester class schedule Work with continuing students to develop Student Educational Plans in which students are assisted with learning how to assess, plan for, and pursue the vocational or academic program which best supports their career/life goalsPossess extensive knowledge of transfer requirements, articulation agreements, and vocational course patternsParticipate in follow-up and assistance to students experiencing academic difficulties, probation, and academic dismissalCareer/life counseling and development: Encourage students to develop self-knowledge and skills through individual and group discussions with Counselors and peersUse instrument assessing abilities, interests, values, personality styles, materials, and programs designed to assist with educational and occupational exploration, employment trends, effective career/life decisions and transitions, goal-setting, and implementation of these goalsProfessional and Student Success Program Development: Maintain currency in fieldDevelop, maintain, and evaluate student success programsDevelop, maintain, and review counseling department student learning outcomesPersonal counseling/crisis intervention counseling: Including the identification of and assistance to the degree practical with emotional, social, family, and personal problems which impede the student's potential to succeed in a community college environmentLong term counseling and complex problems are referred to agencies equipped to address this level of counseling and psychotherapyIntervene, as needed, in the office, classroom, or a campus location, with a student in psychological distress.
