Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP)
Service Lines: Mobile Crisis Response & Community Stabilization
Position Summary
The Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) provides short-term, intensive, community-based behavioral health crisis intervention and stabilization services to individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. Services are delivered in accordance with requirements, including crisis assessment, safety planning, crisis ISP development, service coordination, and linkage to ongoing supports.
The QMHP works as part of an interdisciplinary crisis team and operates under the clinical oversight of a Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Mobile Crisis Response
- Respond to behavioral health crises in community settings (home, hospital, shelter, school, public location, or via telehealth when permitted)
- Conduct crisis assessments
- Identify immediate safety risks, crisis triggers, and protective factors
- Participate in development of Safety Plans and Crisis Individualized Service Plans (ISPs)
- Provide de-escalation, emotional stabilization, and brief therapeutic interventions
- Coordinate with hospitals, CSBs, law enforcement, emergency services, and community partners
- Document services in the EHR same day and in compliance with DMAS billing standards
Community Stabilization
- Deliver short-term, intensive stabilization services following discharge from higher levels of care
- Implement Crisis ISP goals focused on:
- Symptom reduction
- Coping skills development
- Community reintegration
- Prevention of re-hospitalization
- Provide skill-building, psychoeducation, and crisis follow-up support
- Coordinate referrals to outpatient providers, medication management, housing, and social services
- Monitor client progress and update safety plans as clinically indicated
- Ensure client participation and signature requirements are met or properly documented when contraindicated
Documentation & Compliance Responsibilities
- Complete all clinical documentation accurately and timely
- Ensure documentation supports medical necessity
- Obtain required client signatures within regulatory timeframes or document exceptions
- Adhere to confidentiality standards (HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2 when applicable)
- Participate in audits, utilization reviews, and corrective action processes as required

Work Environment
- Community-based fieldwork (including evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled)
- On-call or rotating crisis response shifts may be required
- Use of agency-approved technology and EHR systems
Supervision
- Receives clinical supervision from a Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP/LPC/LCSW/LMFT/NP/MD) in accordance with requirements
- Participates in case reviews, supervision, and ongoing training
Employment Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to pass background checks
- CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
- Completion of all required crisis and safety trainings
