Medi Home Health & Hospice, a proud member of the Medical Services of America, Inc. family, currently seeks an experienced Full-Time Medical Social Worker and Volunteer Coordinator to join our Hospice team to cover New River Valley, VA.

Medical Social Work Responsibilities Include:

  • Provides social work services in accordance with the physician’s plan of treatment.
  • Works with the interdisciplinary team directly, or through coordination of team members, to provide appropriate assessment and support patients and families.
  • Provides assessment for normal and complicated grief and provides bereavement counseling as appropriate.
  • Serves as a liaison with other community resources.

Volunteer Coordinator Responsibilities Include:

  • Plans and supervise delivery of all volunteer services.
  • Assigns volunteers to service on the basis of program needs and the volunteer interests and skill.
  • Assesses and monitors program needs and develop appropriate volunteer activity and positions.
  • Maintains and monitors a record keeping system which includes services delivered and actual time involved.
  • Recruits, interviews, and selects volunteers.
  • Designs and supervises the orientation and training of volunteers regarding hospice philosophy, policy and practice.
  • Oversees performance of program supportive staff.
  • Monitors and evaluates volunteers’ performance.
  • Plans and conduct volunteer support meetings.
  • Prepares service reports as required.
  • Participates in IDG meetings.
  • Develops with volunteers a plan of care for patient.
  • Other assignments as may be appropriate.

Job Requirements

  • Master's or Bachelor's level social work degree from a school of social work accredited or approved by the Council of Social Work Education.
  • Minimum of one-year Hospice experience and volunteer activity preferred.
  • Demonstrated skill in administrative functions that include ability to develop policies and procedures.
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute a supportive and sensitive approach to volunteer and patient/family needs.
  • Ability to speak in front of large groups.
  • Valid Driver's License
