Responsible for performing a wide range of duties related to the functions of front desk intake activities and laboratory functions in assigned WIC clinics.
Description of Primary Duties & Responsibilities
1. Responsible for a variety of clerical duties for the day-to-day operation and implementation of the WIC Program.
- Accurately gathers and documents required information for client intake and certification.
- Performs client scheduling tasks and notifies supervisor of any scheduling concerns.
- Accurately maintains EBT card inventory and issues new and replacement EBT cards in accordance with policies.
- Participates in promotion and retention activities to maintain and increase caseload.
2. Responsible for anthropometric and laboratory procedures as specified by WIC policies.
- Practices all lab and anthropometric processes according to WIC policies.
- Quality control practices for laboratory are followed.
3. Assists in making referrals to nutrition, breastfeeding, health, public assistance, and community services as needed in a client centered environment.
- Refers clients to WIC nutrition staff and other community programs as deemed appropriate.
- Promotes a breastfeeding supportive environment by ensuring all clients are aware of breastfeeding support services available through WIC.
- Utilizes the Michigan Care Improvement Registry to assess immunization and lead testing status. Refers to medical providers and/or local health department as indicated.

- Reviews emails twice daily.
- Expected to maintain reliable transportation for travel between InterCare locations and for the occasional overnight state-wide travel to attend MDHHS training and conferences.
Professional and Technical Knowledge
- Basic level of reading, writing and mathematical skills typically acquired through completion of a high school diploma.
- Some front desk experience in a medical office.
- Maintains BLS requirement. BLS is a mandatory by InterCare and our FTCA agreement with the Federal Government. It must be completed within 90 days of hire.
Technical Skills
- Ability to use Microsoft Word sufficient to produce simple correspondence, and basic documents.
- Ability to use basic clerical and numerical skills in performing basic office duties.
Communication Skills
- Possesses a professional level of written and verbal communication skills.
- Possesses excellent cross cultural communication skills and the ability to communicate professionally to clients, vendors, business associates, and staff members at all levels.
- Expected to exercise tact and negotiate resolutions to complex situations and in the resolutions of conflicts and disagreements.
Physical Demands
Job duties are performed in the typical clinic environment, which requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations. The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following:
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, frequently sit, and lift up to 25 lbs.
- Requires good hand-eye coordination, reach with arms & hands, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and manipulate (using keyboard, office equipment).
- Visual acuity to use keyboard, operate office equipment, and read printed material. Must to able to hear and communicate with clients and staff on telephone and those who are served in person, and speak clearly in order to communicate information to clients and staff.
- May be exposed to contagious/infectious diseases.
