About Job

The Youth Peer Support Specialist will act as a support and resource for youth with serious emotional disturbances (SED). The Youth Peer Support Specialist will build and foster relationships with youth in their care. They will support youth in developing skills to improve their overall functioning and quality of life. They will be part of the treatment team to meet the youth’s needs. This is a Part Time position, 24 hours a week.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or graduate equivalent degree required.
  • Willing and able to self-identify as a person who has received or is receiving behavioral health services.
  • Certification as a Youth Peer Support Specialist within six months of hire.
  • Previous experience working with youth is desirable.
  • Preferred to be fluent in Arabic both verbal and written.
  • Provide peer support and advocacy. Build and fosters relationships with the youth and the family.
  • The Youth Peer Support Specialist will act as a support and resource for youth with serious emotional disturbances (SED). They will provide outreach and assistance as needed.
  • Assist in facilitating groups of youth focusing on goals specified in their person-centered plan.
  • Assist youth by developing skills to improve their overall functioning and quality of life and working with others involved in their treatment. Teach self-advocacy, problem solving and independent living skills.
  • Shares own experience with client and provide support based on personal knowledge of mental health services. Serves as a role model.
  • Assist client to develop natural supports to eliminate barriers to services.
  • Assist personal needs of clients in areas such as housing, finance, education, self-care and symptom management and participate in person-centered planning process.
  • Provide support during crisis times.
  • Responsible for documenting notes on all individual/ family contacts and activities conducted on their behalf.
  • Conducts individual check-ins as necessary when clinicians are unavailable, as appropriate
  • Build and foster relationships with the youth and their family.
  • Utilized appropriate and effective interventions based on client needs.
  • Provide services to youth in their home or community.
  • Attends team and department meetings as needed.
  • Performs administrative tasks related to assigned caseload.
  • Completes all documentation in a timely manner, meets requirements regarding caseload, direct service time, progress notes and staff productivity as required by ACC policy.
  • Assist in providing community referrals and resources provided by the clinician.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
