Attending Psychiatrist - Occupational Psychiatry - Workforce Health & Safety

In this role, the Attending Psychiatrist diagnoses and treats patients with mental, emotional and behavioral disorders. Examines patients to determine general physical condition, following standard medical procedures. Orders or performs various tests, analyses, and x-rays to provide information on a patient’s condition. Diagnoses patient’s condition based on exams, tests and reports. Discusses results with patients and families. Prescribes and administers drugs and treatments. Organizes data concerning patient’s family, medical history, and onset of symptoms obtained from patient, relatives, etc. Determines nature and extent of mental disorder and formulates treatment program. Treats or directs treatment of patients, utilizing variety of psychotherapeutic methods and medications. Assists in the implementation of education and training experience for psychiatric residents and other students. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. Participates in hospital/medical staff committee meetings as required. Attends and serves on professional/civic service organizations as hospital representative. Participates in training, evaluation of assigned clinical manager staff according to hospital policies and procedures. Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.

Essential Duties

  • Fitness for Duty Evaluations, including Psychiatric, Medical, Neurological assessments
  • Evaluations for Impairment for all staff, including Physicians, NP's, Residents
  • Crisis Intervention for traumatic events in the workplace
  • Psychiatric Accommodations in the workplace
  • Brief treatment and referral
  • Referrals to Inpatient and Outpatient treatment for Psychiatric and/or Substance Use Disorder
  • Collaboration with regulatory agencies, CPH (Committee for Physicians Health), PAP ( Professional Assistance Program)
  • Compliance and monitoring for employees on Return to Work agreements
  • Referrals to COPE NYP; House Staff Mental Health Program; Cornell/ Columbia Faculty Practice
  • DOT/EMS monitoring
  • Return to work evaluations
  • Pre-placement evaluations, including urine drug screen interpretations
  • Committee participation
  • Collaboration with HRBP, GME, Senior Leadership
  • Consultation with Legal

Full time and part time opportunities available.

Preferred Criteria

  • Minimum 1 year of experience

Required Criteria

  • Graduate of recognized Medical School
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry
  • New York State license to practice Medicine
