MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR – Assessment and Placement Competency Center
Trent Hill Center is seeking a Mental Health Counselor to work within our new Assessment and Placement Competency Center, opening fall 2025. The Mental Health Counselor will work closely with the Program Manager, Case Managers, and Educational Coordinator to ensure that the basic, educational, mental health and general well-being needs of our participants are addressed. The person in this role will provide direct treatment services to the residents of this program.
The Mental Health Counselor is responsible for:
· Administering a battery of assessments to include biopsychosocial and diagnostic assessments with residents of the program.
· Providing individual counseling to residents or other Trent Hill Center program participants on their caseload.
· Encouraging clients to express their feelings and discuss what is happening in their lives, helping them to develop insight into themselves or their relationships.
· Collecting information about clients through interviews, observation, or assessments.
· Interviewing clients to gather information about their backgrounds, needs, or progress.
· Providing psychoeducation relating to diagnosis and treatment.
· Teaching life skills or strategies to clients or their families.
· Providing therapeutic leadership in group counseling sessions.
· Guiding clients in the development of skills or strategies for dealing with their problems.
· Directing training groups and seminars as needed.
· Functioning as a liaison with other community-based agencies to ensure continuity of treatment (referrals).
· Filling out and maintaining client-related paperwork, including federal- and state-mandated forms, client diagnostic records, and progress notes.
· Completing documentation required by programs or regulations.
· Ensuring that confidentiality is protected by properly completing release of information to ALL outside referrals and contacts.
· Ensuring confidentiality and compliance of all case files.
· Contributing to the ongoing assessment and treatment planning process through participation in case reviews, supervision and treatment teams.
· Providing supportive counseling or crisis intervention as necessary.
· Advocating for individual or community needs.
· Providing education and public information services to the general public and/or professional community as opportunity presents.
· Participating in a program of professional development including both external and facility required number of internal in-service programs and events; works toward and or maintains professional credentials.
· Evaluating the effectiveness of counseling or educational programs.
· Maintaining professional social services knowledge.
· Developing working relationships with others to facilitate program activities.
· Coordinating or directing employee workshops, courses, or training about mental health issues.

· Reporting suspected child abuse and neglect to the Out of Home Abuse and Neglect Unit of SCDSS or to a law enforcement agency in the county where the child resides or is found.
Position requires constant mental alertness, attention to detail, and high degree of accuracy required in completing all assignments. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and follow-through on all assignments.
Education and/or Experience: Must have a master’s degree in social work or counseling and be at least eligible for clinical license and/or certification by the appropriate statewide professional agency.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per hour
