SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: The primary purpose of position is to perform as a member of a team providing face-to-face services to Boys & Girls Haven Residential Treatment clients. Working with the Therapist, Program/Case Manager, and involved team of providers focusing on supporting specific behavioral and social goals that have been developed for and with the client. Serves as a supporting role to the schoolteachers and therapeutic providers who work with the clients.

Schedule:

  • Tuesday–Thursday: Variable schedule, typically between 11-7:30pm or 12:00 PM–8:30 PM
  • Friday & Saturday: Variable schedule, typically 12:00 PM–8:30 PM
  • Hours may vary based on program needs

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative Functions15. Support activities related to youth celebrations and birthdays.

  • Develop expertise as a direct Therapeutic Support Specialist to help individual clients to become stable in the BGH Residential Treatment program so that they can discharge to a least restrictive environment
  • As appropriate, therapeutic support should focus upon securing and maintaining the residential placement and continuing support of agreed upon interventions and services from formatted service plan which may include: school/vocational, life skills, counseling, extended family involvement, and other community/activities
  • Provide the full range of support functions including mentoring and support activities for child in residential environment and specified outside activities
  • Provide feedback in behavioral dynamics as it relates to the child’s mental health diagnosis and implement techniques directly with the staff serving the client on the milieu
  • Will work directly with the Managed Care Organization to follow exactly the number of hours that have been approved to provide services and reapply for services before the units run out
  • Will attend weekly treatment team meetings
  • Will complete and maintain appropriate contact notes on all interactions with clients and their progress
  • Will directly work to plan, implement, and follow through with service team to set goals/tasks on an individual basis for each client
  • Will maintain and report to Supervisor a personal daily schedule of client appointments and office time to meet the individual case needs, while maintaining all personnel requirements for employment
  • Will follow all rights and policy regulations as established by the Medicaid manual
  • Will identify crisis situations and implement crisis intervention if necessary
  • Provide crisis support for staff as agreed upon in the treatment team meeting. Will contact Supervisor during crisis times
  • Create and help implement weekly structured activities with staff and youth.
  • Facilitate groups that help develop and foster youth’s independent living skills

Staff Development

  • Attend and participate in service training programs
  • Participate in continuing education curriculum/training for personal and professional growth, sharing what is learned with all appropriate parties and implementing to clients
  • Work in collaboration with staff to create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive interest throughout the agency and community collaborations
  • Work in collaboration with internal and external providers to create and maintain a healthy working relationship that provides participants the opportunity to learn and develop skills

Resident Rights

  • Maintain confidentiality of all client information
  • Will deal with all team members, parents and clients in a respectable manner focusing on a team environment

Working Conditions

  • Works in cottage milieus as well as school or community outings and designated facilities for team meetings
  • Moves intermittently during working hours
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions
  • Involved with youth, family members, personnel, and community providers, under all conditions/circumstances
  • Is sometimes subject to hostile and emotionally upset clients, family members, collaborators, etc
  • Is subject to crisis support in emergency situations
  • Attends and participates in continuing education programs

Education Requirements

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, counseling, or related human service field
  • Must have at least two years of direct service experience with at-risk adolescents and families
  • Must possess the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing
  • Must possess the wherewithal to professionally interact with clients and families who may not be open and receptive to instruction
  • Must possess the ability to assimilate information from a variety of sources, analyze information, and make recommendations to the Supervisor
  • Must possess the ability to establish, implement, and maintain effective working and public relationships
  • Must possess the ability to plan, organize, and effectively present ideals and concepts
  • Must be able to assess family dynamics and crisis situations independently

Specific Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Must possess adequate transportation
  • Experience working with various public and private child and family service agencies, and exhibit skills in teamwork, counseling, advocacy, and crisis intervention with youth required
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and days as needed
  • Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with community service providers, team, family members, etc
  • Must possess the ability to work harmoniously with other personnel
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing the release of information
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle clients based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning
  • Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices
  • Must be able to maintain good relations and employee morale
  • Must not pose a threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace
