About Job

Access Services is hiring an Assistant Director of Justice Related Services serving individuals across Northampton County, with an office based in Bethlehem PA!

The Assistant Director will support the Director in overseeing day-to-day operations of the case management program, ensuring staff deliver high-quality, client-centered services. This individual will be a key leader, helping to shape strategy, monitor outcomes, support team development, and maintain agency and external compliance requirements. The Assistant Director will need to be detail-oriented, flexible, and organized to be successful in their role. This individual will have knowledge of severe mental illness and substance use disorders. The Assistant Director will engage well with diverse populations and collaborate with partners to connect each individual with their personalized treatment and supports.

Essential Functions

Assist in the daily operations and management of JRS, by assisting in the following areas:

  • Provide feedback, supervision, and performance appraisals Case Managers, Certified Peer Specialists, and interns as necessary.
  • Support the interviewing, hiring processes, and orientation of new JRS staff.
  • Assist in the development of JRS case review and staff training.
  • Ensure that an action plan for each individual served is appropriate and completed in a timely manner, and the highest quality of care is provided to individuals served.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance, and work scheduled overtime, or be available for unplanned overtime as necessary, to meet program needs.
  • This position requires the ability to travel during the course of a normal workday using their personal vehicle and/or an agency owned vehicle to successfully carry out the expectations of this position. Employee is expected to always drive safely, meet eligibility criteria outlined in agency Motor Vehicle Policy, and successfully pass the agency’s substance abuse screening at any time during employment. 

Collaborate with other professionals in the following ways:

  • Interface with staff from Managed Care, the County office, Probation, Mental Health Court, jail staff and others across the mental health/justice systems in cross service team meetings.
  • Participate in or lead various agency committees and collaboration groups as requested by Director or Vice President.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field relating to the provision of services and intervention techniques.

Manage and Coordinate within JRS in the following areas:

  • Coordinate the staffing, documentation and coordination of the program’s emergency on call process.
  • Manage and create schedules for Case Managers and Certified Peer Specialists across work week and on call shifts.
  • Assist in the intake process for new referrals, and in connecting individuals with their JRS case workers.
  • Help ensure Case Managers are working toward the needed number of billable hours.
  • Account for, oversee, and maintain records the disbursement of funds to those served through the JRS program.
  • Assist in development and oversight of new program initiatives.



Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field including human services, special education, psychology or social work required; Master’s degree in a related area is preferred.

Experience:

  • Two years of direct work experience in mental health services required, preferably with at least one year of work experience in justice related services.
  • Three years of experience to include a progression of increasing supervisory responsibilities and direct work with those having mental illness preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the philosophy, values, and practices in the Intercept Model and Justice Related Services preferred.
  • Knowledge of the helping relationship, the recovery model, and basic concepts of therapeutic intervention
  • Knowledge of person-centered planning and the ability to help individuals meet their plan objectives.
  • Knowledge of pertinent community resources and facilities.
  • Ability to plan, supervise and direct the work of others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county and state officials, individuals, their families and the public.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting laws, rules, and policies governing Access Services.
  • Proficiency in, or ability to learn and use, workplace applications, platforms and technologies.

Essential Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • Work in a standard office environment, and utilize desktop computer equipment on a daily basis.
  • Able to lift or move items associated with sedentary work and light work (exert up to 20 lbs.)
  • Routinely travel to offsite locations and regional office locations as necessary.
  • May require same physical and lifting requirements as an employee who regularly provides direct care should they be needed to assist.  



Salary:

  • $50,000 - $52,000, with increases negotiated on related work experience and/or education in the field.
