About Job

The After School Counselor is responsible for the supervision and care of children from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5 who are enrolled in the After School program.

The health, safety, and welfare of the children in our program is our most important priority. If you know of or suspect child abuse or neglect or if a child reports abuse or neglect, you must report it to the Director immediately. As an individual working with children, you are a “Mandated Reporter”, and the report is mandated by law. You should not discuss an incident with other staff, children, or parents unless you are asked to by your supervisor. Protect the privacy of the child(ren) involved in an incident as well as the child or staff member who reports it to you.

Responsibilities and duties include among others:

  • Follow pick-up and dismissal procedures implemented by the EDCJCC and Ross Elementary School
  • Ensure that the children in your group(s) are always supervised which may include the pool
  • Create age-appropriate activities for the children; this includes free time, quiet room activities, etc.
  • Participate energetically in all activities
  • Assist the specialists - swim, art, science - in their instructional lessons as needed
  • Take attendance daily and count your students as you move from activity to activity, inside and outside the building
  • Run specialty programs as assigned by the Director
  • Clean the room(s) you use before you leave for the day and ensure the correct use and return of all EDCJCC property, materials, equipment, etc.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

Requirements:

  • Behave in a mature, responsible, positive, and professional manner
  • Build appropriate relationships with children, parents, and other staff
  • Raise all disciplinary or health issues with the Director before speaking to parents
  • Ensure that program rules are followed for the safety and health of students and staff

Reports to: Director, Camp & After School Programming

Hours of Work: 3:00 – 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, during the academic year (early September through mid-June).

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: Up to $18.00 per hour
