JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Lead High School Counselor will provide leadership for the implementation of the guidance and counseling program services to improve academics, attendance and behavior of all students.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise the high school counseling program and high school counselors.
  • Coordinate, monitor and provide assistance for the implementation of the counseling program;
  • Coordinate the activities of the high school counseling department, including calendaring school days and evening events for communicating important information to students and parents;
  • Coordinate student scheduling, data entry of grades and production and evaluation of transcripts;
  • Assist with the supervision of student records and transcripts to ensure compliance as per state and federal regulations;
  • Guide individuals and groups of students through the development of educational, personal, social and career plans;
  • Review school data to ensure the counseling program is meeting the academic, college/career, and personal/social development of all students;
  • Consult with and train teachers, parents and staff regarding children’s needs;
  • Seek opportunities for children with behavioral/social challenges and their parents to receive support through special programs, specialists and outside agencies (if appropriate);
  • Participate in, coordinate and conduct activities that contribute to the effective operation of the counseling program and school;
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of interventions to enhance student success and reduce the dropout rates;
  • Plan and evaluate the counseling program; have familiarity and experience with the American School Crisis Association, and the recognized ASCA model program.
  • Implement the comprehensive guidance curriculum: conduct classroom guidance activities in each teacher's class and/or systematically conduct developmental counseling groups for each grade level throughout the year; consult with and/or provide resources to teachers to facilitate their instruction of counseling content and to infuse counseling content in the regular educational curriculum.
  • Guide individuals and groups of students through the development of life skills: work with students in acquiring knowledge about and effective use of skills when interacting in the home, academic and peer environments.
  • Counsel individuals and small groups of children toward social and emotional growth: conduct structured, goal-oriented counseling sessions in systematic response to identified needs of individual or groups of children.
  • Consult with and train teachers, parents and staff regarding student needs: participate in staffing; conduct in service programs for faculty;
  • Coach, evaluate and train counseling staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree or higher w/a guidance and counseling endorsement
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
