POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Youth Activity Instructors teach and develop skills while maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for youth participants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Assists with planning and implements age-appropriate activities.

2. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.

3. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness.

4. Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

5. Maintains an accurate record of all attendees and/or associated progress.

6. Actively participates in department and branch staff meetings and trainings.

7. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. At least 16 years of age

2. Ability to work with children of various ages

3. Previous experience or background suitable for the position

4. Ability to organize and implement age-appropriate/development appropriate program activities

5. Complete before first shift: program-specific training

6. Complete within 30 days of hire: YMCA cause & culture training; Child Abuse Prevention Training, BLS CPR/AED/First Aid

7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check
