The Licensed BH Clinical Specialist develops and implements individualized treatment plans, observes and documents client response to interventions, and provides therapeutic support for patients and their families (mediation, locating resources, and providing mental health education). The Licensed BH Clinical Specialist plays a leading role on the patient’s integrated treatment team serving as the initial contact for individuals admitted, through completion and discharge of the Partial Hospitalization Program/Intensive Outpatient Program.
Responsibilities:Prepares intake screening interviews and psychosocial assessments and diagnostic formulations for use in treatment and discharge planning, and Level of Care (LOC) considerations. Confers with members of the professional clinical staff throughout all patient treatment processes.
Demonstrates an advanced level of psychosocial, crisis intervention and addiction/recovery assessments and services and knowledge and expertise in the use of the Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM) 5, established standards of professional and ethical practice, Florida Mental Health statutes, and hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Confers with patients (and family/other supports) to identify treatment needs and develop individualized treatment and discharge plans.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality outpatient addiction recovery/behavioral healthcare, based on the physical, psychosocial, educational, cultural and safety criteria appropriate for each patient’s developmental stage.
Participates in the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) in order to coordinate treatment plans, discharge planning, LOC determination, community referrals.
Provides individual, group, and family therapy for patients in order to achieve identified therapeutic goals.
Documents patient assessments, treatment progress notes, social service and discharge planning interventions in the medical record.
Determines the patient’s transportation resources; access to stable housing; access to medications; access to aftercare appointments and refer patients to appropriate services with complete instructions for follow up care, and makes contact with referral source to provide information to ensure the best outcome for the patient.
Maintains a referral source database, including outpatient Psychiatrists and Psychotherapists, other mental health/substance abuse providers, housing, vocational and recreational resources, etc. in order to provide the least restrictive, appropriate referral.
May conduct utilization review responsibilities: including providing all relevant clinical information to insurance companies for patient certification and continued stay in PHP/IOP/Outpatient Treatment.
Master's Degree in Social Work, Mental Health/Mental Health Counseling or Marriage & Family Therapy is required.
3 years of Mental Health and Substance Abuse/Addiction Recovery is required.
