Key Position Information:
The College is seeking a dynamic and creative individual to provide career and academic advisement to our students in SPC Collegiate High and Dual Enrollment programs interested in Engineering programs such as semiconductor or clean room technology. This position will provide a critical role in serving students on campus and in a virtual environment. A passion for providing high-quality advising in person and in a virtual environment is a must. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, a problem solver, technology savvy, and should have excellent communication skills. As the College continues to build momentum around Academic Excellence and Economic Mobility as a strategic priority, the Career and Academic Counselors will be essential to student recruitment, onboarding, retention, completion, and the overall student
experience.
Position Summary:
The Career and Academic Counselor is a student services responsible for recruiting and helping students from their initial inquiry through application to the College; facilitating student orientations; course registration, guiding students career decisions and class selection; tracking the advancement of students and providing case management and assistance for at-risk students; and assisting students with job searches, resume preparation, and placement or transfer.
This position provides professional-level counseling, advising, and student development guidance for incoming, current, and returning students on admissions, financial aid, academic programs, internships, careers, disability services, and/or other related programs. Duties may also include: conducting assessments, interacting with businesses and the community, utilizing articulation information, and making referrals for additional resources.
Additional Notes-Description:
Under funding from the Florida Department of Education, a Workforce Development Capitalization Incentive Grant was awarded for the purpose is to provide grants to school districts and Florida College System institutions to create/expand career and technical education workforce development programs that serve lead to industry certifications. The CAP grant Career and Academic Advisor will:
- Serve as dedicated for support of students in Dual Enrollment and SPC Collegiate High Programs specifically for engineering technology programs such as clean room and semiconductor technology.
- Contribute to the SPC statement of work, $4,000,000 budget, and deliverables.
- Ensure high quality advising sessions for students and the local community
- Conduct follow-up efforts with partners, participants and other stakeholders for valuable feedback as to program/course enrollment and satisfaction levels.
- Communicate with the stakeholders such as SPC Collegiate High School, Engineering Program Director, Grants Accounting, Workforce and Career Education Dean, community organizations, students etc.
- Assist with recruitment activities related to enrollment in courses established under the project proposal.
- Support grant required data and mandated outcome reports.
- Provide assistance when needed to meet data collection needs to the funder.
Additional Duties:
- A strong candidate will have direct working knowledge advising high school students on technical education programs
- Serve as liaison between stakeholders, partners, community organizations and college administration
- Be a point of contact for recruitment presentations, materials and publications
Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's degree.
Experience:
Three (3) years related experience. Some positions may require higher level of education.
