Position Summary
Southgate Community Schools is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented School Psychologist to join our student services team for the 20252026 school year. This is a full-time, in-person position with a primary emphasis on comprehensive psychoeducational testing and evaluations, particularly for students suspected of having Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). The ideal candidate will also serve as a valued team member in the districts Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process, providing professional insights as requested.
This role supports students ages 3 through high school, ensuring that their cognitive, behavioral, and academic needs are properly assessed and documented in accordance with IDEA, Michigan administrative rules, and best practices in school psychology.
Key Responsibilities
Assessment & Evaluation (Primary Focus)
Conduct psychoeducational evaluations for students aged 318, with a strong emphasis on SLD eligibility.
Administer and interpret standardized cognitive, academic, behavioral, and social-emotional assessments.
Compile comprehensive, legally defensible reports with actionable recommendations for academic and behavioral support.
Participate in evaluation planning and eligibility determination meetings.
Consultation & MTSS Support
Collaborate with MTSS teams across buildings to analyze student data and provide input on pre-referral interventions, when requested.
Offer guidance on evidence-based academic and behavioral strategies.
Assist teams in determining the need for further assessment or special education referrals.
Team Collaboration
Serve as a contributing member of IEP and Evaluation Review Teams.
Maintain communication with school staff, special education personnel, and families to ensure understanding of evaluation outcomes.
Support child study teams in the development and review of Response to Intervention (RtI) processes.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Ed.S. or Master's degree in School Psychology from an accredited institution.
Certification: Valid Michigan School Psychologist Certificate.
Experience: Prior experience working with students across early childhood through high school preferred. Strong background in SLD identification and the Michigan criteria for SLD eligibility is especially valuable.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of psychoeducational assessment tools (WISC-V, WIAT-4, BASC-3, etc.).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in special education law and procedural compliance.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
