Position: Social Worker

Reports To: Attorney Partner
Location: Columbus, OH (hybrid of field visits and office work)

Purpose

Serve as the Court-appointed guardian’s liaison to ensure the safety, welfare, and quality of life of wards under Franklin County Probate Court.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct regular in-person visits to wards at their residences, complete standardized assessment forms, and stay in compliance with court rules
  • Be available for phone calls from wards, hospitals, and other health professionals (doctors, nurses, social workers)
  • Assist in funeral planning and asset-transfer affidavits
  • Coordinate placement of wards and arrange transportation for medical appointments and shopping
  • Prepare and file annual and initial SOEE (Statement of Expert Evaluation) reports and indigent-fee applications, and follow through on financial receivables
  • Communicate via email and phone with the court, family members, and healthcare professionals on behalf of the ward
  • Identify ward health-insurance status and establish monthly costs
  • Maintain accurate electronic records in our case-management system
  • Uphold and model the firm’s mission, vision, and core values in all interactions

  • Demonstrate the highest standards of professionalism

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Social Work
  • Licensed Social Worker (LISW-S or equivalent) in Ohio
  • 1–5 years’ experience in guardianship or elder social work
  • Valid driver’s license and clean motor-vehicle record clearance

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Familiarity with Probate Court rules and reporting formats
  • Proficiency with case-management software (e.g., Clio, Legal Files)
  • Strong written documentation and assessment-form skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, crisis-management, and problem-solving abilities
  • Trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practice
