Open Positions: Supervised Visitation and Therapeutic Support Specialist

Department: Family Support Services

Reports To: Clinical Supervisor/Manager

Location: Connecticut (various locations, including New Haven, Milford, Manchester, Hartford, Torrington, and Windsor)

Employment Type: Per diem /Part-Time (Flexible; includes evenings and weekends as needed)

Overview

Pathway Support Services, a leader in family support, and is Department of Children and Families (DCF) -credentialed to provide supervised visitation, therapeutic support, and support staff services in Connecticut. We are dedicated to fostering safe, nurturing environments for children and families during supervised visits and related support services.

Open Roles:

  • Supervised Visitation Specialist: Facilitate and monitor visits between the child(ren) and their biological parents and/or relatives in approved, safe environments. This role requires maintaining a safe, enriching environment while documenting interactions and providing constructive feedback to all parties involved.
  • Therapeutic Support Specialist: In accordance with the child or teen's behavioral treatment plan, provide support by playing an emotionally supportive role, encouraging social interaction, and participating in group activities to help minimize unacceptable behavior. Additionally, assist the child’s family and caregivers in promoting acceptable behavior and increasing independence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transportation: Provide safe, reliable transportation for children to and from scheduled visits, ensuring all travel is documented and complies with agency policies.
  • Guidelines & Safety: Communicate and enforce clear behavioral and safety guidelines for all participants during visits.
  • Observation & Feedback: Observe parent-child interactions, provide constructive feedback to parents, and document observations as required.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Complete detailed written summaries after each visit, including observations and recommendations, and submit reports to DCF social workers within two business days.
  • Case Coordination: Participate in monthly case review meetings with DCF staff and attend treatment planning conferences as requested.
  • Emergency Response: Follow established protocols for managing emergencies or urgent situations, including immediate notification of DCF and/or Careline as appropriate.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality and safeguard all client information in accordance with HIPAA and state regulations.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training, including cultural sensitivity, trauma-informed care, mandated reporting, and child development.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience: We welcome a combination of education and experience including:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Education, or a related field, or 5-7 years of experience working with children (with no degree required)
  • Alternative qualifications may be considered for candidates on a case-by-case basis. Department review required.
  • Skills: Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills; ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations; cultural competence and sensitivity. Transferable skills from related fields will be considered
  • Certifications: Current American Red Cross or American Heart Association First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Driver License/ Insurance Requirements: Valid Connecticut driver’s license and reliable transportation; must maintain motor vehicle insurance with minimum coverage of 50/100
  • Background Check: Must pass Connecticut state and federal background checks, including Child Abuse and Neglect Registry, criminal history, and sex offender registry.
  • Required: Must be at least 21 years old; ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Supervision

  • Receive regular, documented face-to-face clinical supervision from a licensed behavioral health practitioner.
  • Participate in individual and group supervision sessions as required by DCF and agency policy.

Work Environment

  • Site-Based: Visits may occur at DCF offices, community locations, or other approved sites.
  • Field-Based: Travel throughout Connecticut to transport children and attend visits.
  • Equipment: Use of age-appropriate educational and recreational materials during visits.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry children up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to drive for extended periods.
