About Job

Job Summary

Counselor is responsible for working with children, individuals, couples, families, or groups to help them overcome a range of psychological and emotional issues. Counselors utilize individual treatment plans and a variety of non-medical based treatments to: address the client’s thought processes, feelings, and behavior; understand inner conflicts; and find new ways to deal with and alleviate distress.

Re sponsi bilities

· Interview patients to obtain information concerning social history, treatment, and other pertinent information.

· Plans and administers therapeutic treatment, behavior modification, and stress management therapy to assist clients in developing/displaying appropriate behaviors.

· Observers clients to detect indications of abnormal physical or mental behavior.

· Reviews results of tests given by psychologist to evaluate clients’ needs.

· Change method and degree of therapy when indicated by client reactions/needs.

· Discusses progress toward goals with clients such as medication regiment, family relationships, educational programs, social development, termination plans or other behavioral problems.

· Maintains accurate records to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations.

· Serves as an information resource for mental health issues.

· Executes therapeutic and/or crisis interventions, skill building, and case management for individuals.

· Consults with psychologist/psychiatrist or other specialist concerning treatment plans and amends plans as required.

· Maintains regular contacts with other agencies/professionals regarding client progress through phone calls, letters, and/or monthly reporting.

· Refers client to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling.

· Completes and maintains individual and group counseling notes and documentation within designated time frames following the therapy session.

· Keeps informed of developments in theory and research.

· Adhere to HIPAA guidelines.

· Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Per fo rman ce Requirements

· Minimum experience of two years progressively autonomous experience with children, groups, individual, and family therapy.

· Demonstrate ability to assess patient needs, develop and implement a plan of care.

· Strong oral and written communication skills.

· Strong interpersonal skills (empathy, sincerity, sensitivity).

· Ability to show high level of sensitivity to patient needs and concerns.

· Ability to display a non-judgmental approach and to build trust and rapport with a wide range of people.

· Able to respond to requests for immediate consultation and/or crisis.

· Knowledge of accreditation standards, commitment to self-development, and compliance requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

· Master’s degree from an accredited degree program plus a minimum two years experience in a field related to counseling individuals in crisis/trauma situations.

· Must have a current License Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $46,000.00 per year
