Adoption Counselor/Animal Care Technician

Have you always dreamed of a career helping shelter animals? Are you looking to make a difference for animals and the community? The Paris Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) Shelter Location is looking for a part-time Adoption Counselor at our location at PetSmart in Lexington.

Job Responsibilities

  • Facilitating our people positive, same-day adoption process and positively speaking confidently to potential adopters and supporters about our animals and organization.
  • Communicating additional information and education to potential adopters and supporters about events, other adoption inquiries, and meet-and-greets.
  • Provide high quality customer service to all clients in a thorough, professional, and compassionate manner to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Accurately process payment transactions using established procedures.
  • Frequently update pet profiles on the cages and in the online software, including photos, videos, and bios.
  • Maintain precise records for each animal in care and communicate with appropriate employees about errors or needed updates in records.
  • Providing animals with food, water, enrichment, and other essential daily needs such as keeping cages clean and sanitized. This includes emptying trash, organizing areas, laundry, dishes, and other.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness in a high-volume adoption center allows us to minimize disease transmission and should be considered of all positions
  • Must be able to work with and around animals of unknown temperaments and those with zoonotic conditions. Must also be able to work with and be around chemicals, detergents, and cleaners.
  • Able to work in a high volume, fast-paced, high-stress environment.
  • Ability to handle dogs and cats safely and with kindness at all times, without exception.
  • Ability to recognize, understand, and address various animal behaviors and illnesses
  • Other duties as assigned

POTENTIAL SHIFTS

  • Monday - Saturday 7am-10am
  • Sunday 8am-12pm
  • Monday - Friday 4pm-8pm
  • Friday 8am-4pm
  • Saturday/Sunday 8am-8pm (shifts are normally broken down into 4 or 6 hour shifts)

Qualifications

Must have morning and weekend availability!

  • Frequently required to carry or lift up to 50 pounds and bend, stoop, stand, or kneel for extended periods of time.
  • Prior animal care experience or customer service a plus but not required
  • Must be 18 years or older

Starting pay is $10.50 an hour. Employees eligible for review at 30 and 60 days post certification.
