About Job

The Afterschool Care Counselor is responsible for supervising and engaging students in a safe, supportive, and enriching environment during afterschool hours. Counselors lead recreational, educational, and creative activities while ensuring student safety, positive behavior, and program structure.

  • Supervise and ensure the safety of children at all times
  • Lead or assist with activities such as arts and crafts, games, homework time, and outdoor play
  • Promote positive behavior and help resolve conflicts using appropriate guidance techniques
  • Build relationships with students and fellow staff
  • Maintain accurate attendance and face to name counting
  • Ensure program areas are clean and organized before and after use
  • Follow all program policies and procedures, including emergency protocols
  • Communicate effectively with the site leader and report concerns or incidents promptly
  • Ability to actively supervise and participate in indoor and outdoor play
  • Stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed

High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or child development coursework preferred

Experience working with children in a school, camp, or youth program setting

Energetic, patient, and dependable with strong communication skills

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Must pass background check, clear finger printing and meet licensing or district requirements (CPR/First Aid certification may be required)

Negative TB test

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 17.5 per week

Schedule:

  • Afternoon shift
  • After school
  • Monday to Friday
