High School Counselor

Shrine Catholic High School is known for its dynamic community, collaborative and cohesive faculty, and its supportive administration. There are approximately 220 students at Shrine High School, allowing teachers to develop meaningful relationships with students. Shrine Catholic High School students are well-rounded; most involved in multiple activities such as performing arts, extracurricular clubs, as well as athletics.

Shrine Catholic High School & Academy is located in Royal Oak, MI at the corner of 13 Mile Rd and Woodward Avenue. Shrine Catholic Schools have been providing the highest quality Catholic education to the surrounding communities since 1938.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Shrine Catholic High School is seeking a full-time High School Counselor for the 2025-2026 school year. Our comprehensive counseling department consists of a full-time social-emotional counselor that works closely with our full-time college and career counselor to support our students. Counselors work in partnership with students and families to provide comprehensive academic, personal, social, and college counseling support throughout all four years of high school.

Our school counselors are a valued part of our school community and play an important role in supporting students' overall well-being, academic growth, and personal development, while actively contributing to the positive culture of Shrine Catholic High School.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Collaborates with school administration and appropriate staff to provide a comprehensive counseling program for students (9-12) and create an atmosphere designed to meet student needs through prevention, identification, and intervention.
  • Implementation of transition programs and support for incoming high school students, transfer students, and their parents.
  • Support of academic support programs and appropriate course selection for students withinf the RTI program.
  • Support College Advisor for college selection and financial aid process for both parents and students.
  • Coordination and implementation of standardized testing programs.
  • Coordination of the school response to students and parents following a crisis.
  • Development and implementation of emotional support and personal counseling for students and families.
  • Provides referrals for psychological testing, evaluation and therapy as needed.
  • Working with the administration to oversee all issues related to school safety and rule compliance.
  • Collaborates with the Academy (middle school) Counselor.
  • Organizes the accommodated testing for students in need of modified assessments.

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Master's degree or higher in Counseling, Education, or Social Work

Along with ONE of the following:
  • SCL School Counselor License
  • NT Counseling Endorsement (for Michigan teacher-certified counselors)
  • LPC Licensed Professional Counselor credential
  • LLMSW or LMSW Licensed Social Worker credential
