About Job

 SUMMARY:


The Prevention Specialist plays a vital role in helping the McKinley County community and its residents prevent substance use disorders (SUD) and behavioral health challenges. This is achieved through proactive interventions aimed at delaying the onset of issues, reducing their severity, and building individual and systemic capacities to create healthier environments, lifestyles, and communities. The Prevention Specialist will be skilled in alcohol, tobacco, and drug prevention and will provide services that support evidence-based strategies to promote wellness.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Provide technical assistance and direct services related to alcohol and substance use disorders for schools and community programs.

· Coordinate, organize, and engage community members and organizations in science-based environmental strategies for substance use prevention.

· Collaborate with stakeholders to support prevention initiatives, increase awareness, and expand impact.

· Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, healthcare providers, and policymakers to support prevention goals.

· Educate the community on SUD/AUD prevention strategies and facilitate connections to supportive services.

· Work with community members to implement effective prevention and intervention strategies.

· Ensure accurate and thorough documentation of program activities to maintain compliance with grant funding requirements.

· Obtain Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) certification within two years of hire.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

 KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:


· Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

· Highly detail-oriented and organized.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Proficiency with computer systems, including advanced knowledge of Excel and experience with EHR/CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce.com, Alleva, or similar).

· Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

· Strong problem-solving skills and ability to meet reporting deadlines consistently.

· Self-motivated with the ability to plan and manage work activities independently.

· Familiarity with community-based organizations and the continuum of care.

· Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures accurately.

· Proven experience in community engagement, partnership development, or a similar role.

· Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


Minimum:


1. A combination of 2-4 years of experience or education in the areas of Social Work, Psychology, Prevention, ducation or related fields;

2. Strong teamwork skills, including willingness and ability to consult with subject matter experts from operational teams within the organization;

3. Must become a Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) within two years of hire.

4. Valid Driver’s License - must also have and maintain a spotless driving record and auto insurance.

Preferred:

1. Associate’s degree in human services, education, political science or related field;

2. At least two years working with the SUD population in a clinical setting, outpatient setting, or care coordination experience is preferred;

3. Basic Life Support Certified;

4. Experience working with federal grants preferred;

5. Bi-lingual/Bi-cultural preferred (English/Spanish) (English/Navajo).
