About Job

The Overnight Shelter Supervisor at the Willows Youth Services Center provides leadership and oversight ensuring safety, stability, and support for youth and young adults experiencing homelessness or at risk of housing instability. This position supervises overnight shelter operations, provides direct engagement to residents, supports overnight employees, and upholds trauma-informed, client-centered care in alignment with agency values and service expectations. While based at the Willows Youth Services Center, the Overnight Shelter Supervisor also serves as the on-call supervisor for Youth Haven and Bridge Pointe programs during the work shift, responding to emergencies or employee support needs.   

essential duties 

Supervisory and Development Tasks 

  1. Provide overnight supervision and support to shelter employees, ensuring safe, consistent, and high-quality service in accordance with Friends of Youth policies and program goals.
  2. Conduct onboarding, coaching, and performance guidance for overnight employees, reinforcing trauma-informed, harm reduction, and restorative practice frameworks.
  3. Maintain employee coverage by partnering with the Program Manager to develop shift schedules that meet service needs, ensuring holiday and special event staffing. And support handoff communication with daytime teams.
  4. Provide supervisory support for Youth Haven and Bridge Pointe as needed.
  5. Serve as the designated overnight on-call supervisor for Youth Haven and Bridge Pointe Housing, responding to calls from employees for guidance or emergencies.
  6. Partner with the Program Manager to support retention, employee and client engagement, strengthen strategic planning, team performance, and continuous quality improvement.
  7. Facilitate regular shift check-ins and promote positive team dynamics during overnight operations.

Client-Focused Tasks 

  1. Provide direct crisis intervention, support, and de-escalation for young adults residing at Willows and as needed for Youth Haven and Bridge Pointe.
  2. Monitor the shelter environment to ensure safety, comfort, and program rule adherence.
  3. Build rapport with youth through consistent, strengths-based engagement that supports autonomy and healing.
  4. Coordinate care transitions and ensure accurate communication during shift changes.
  5. Support youth as they navigate behavioral health, housing, or personal challenges overnight.

Record Keeping and Safety Tasks 

  1. Maintain detailed and timely shift logs, incident reports, and facility notes using agency platforms such as Salesforce.
  2. Conduct routine walk-throughs and facility safety checks, promptly reporting maintenance or safety concerns.
  3. Ensure adherence to emergency procedures, mandated reporting requirements, and shelter protocols.
  4. Uphold internal policies and licensing expectations for all assigned programs, including Willows, Youth Haven, and Bridge Pointe.
  5. Support audit readiness and quality assurance activities as needed.

job requirements 

a. Education and Experience 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, youth development, or a related field preferred.
  2. Minimum of two years of relevant experience in youth or young adult shelter, housing, or behavioral health settings.
  3. At least one year of supervisory or lead experience is strongly preferred.
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and client database systems preferred.

 b. Additional Requirements 

  1. Must be 21 years of age or older.
  2. Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check and TB screening.
  3. Must have reliable transportation and a valid Washington State driver’s license (or be able to obtain one by employment start date).
  4. Must complete required health and safety certifications (CPR, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Food Handler’s Permit) within 30 days of hire.
  5. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required, per Friends of Youth policy.
