CRISIS SUPPORT WORKER

SUMMARY:

The Crisis Support Worker is responsible for providing structure and support in the Crisis Calming Center (CCC) for individuals served by the Recovery Center. Under the direction of the Crisis Intervention Specialist and in close coordination with the CCBHC Director, Residential Services Director, and Chief Clinical and Medical Officers, the Crisis Support Worker provides a wide range of interventions and support techniques to ensure smooth operations and a supportive environment for clients in being served by the CCC. Duties include crisis intervention, program admission, screenings and evaluation, and referrals to behavioral health and medical services.

Reports to the Crisis Intervention Specialist

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the Crisis Intervention Specialist, CCBHC Director, Residential Services Director, Detox Nurse Supervisor, Chief Clinical and Medical Officers, and other clinical staff and medical staff to provide crisis support services to clients who are referred to the CCC for crisis intervention.
  • Participate in On-Call for 24/7 CCC service provision.
  • Work with the treatment team to promote crisis stabilization and referrals to services.  
  • Direct care of clients in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort.
  • Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards clients. 
  • Consult with other disciplines and related professional and paraprofessional staff to support the specific needs of clients.
  • Maintains professionalism with clients at all times and must never have personal relationships with any clients.
  • Assist with admission and orientation of new clients referred to the CCC.
  • Completes admission, screening and assessment, and referral documentation consistent with CCC service delivery.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with State and Federal law and perform duties in accordance with SFRC Code of Ethics and Policies and Procedures.
  • Understand and maintain HIPAA and 42CFR Part 2 confidentiality standards relative to SFRC.
  • Perform and/or coordinate other special assignments and tasks as required by the treatment team and project staff.
  • Receive training in AED, BLS, Mental Health First Aid, and crisis services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  1. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency or crisis situations.
  2. Capable of handling disruptive behaviors calmly and professionally.
  3. Cultural and diversity understanding and awareness.
  4. Ability to build rapport with clients.
  5. Ability to maintain health, safety, and infection control standards.
  6. Computer experience, knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to learn MS Office.
  7. Ability to solve unexpected problems as they arise while considering liability, precedence, programmatic implications, and other possible future impacts on the program, services, or organization.
  8. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders.
  9. Ability to set boundaries and use fair, consistent expectations. 
  10. Ability to exercise tact, patience, and discretion when dealing with clients, families, staff, and the public.
  11. Ability to keep observations, conversations, and information confidential.

Education and Experience:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW) or Case Management experience preferred.
  3. Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, both verbally and in writing.
  4. Must be computer literate to effectively maintain compliance with licensing and certification standards.
  5. Must have and maintain a current, valid NM Driver’s License. Must provide and maintain a clean driving record, as well as auto insurance.
  6. Maintain CPR and First Aid certification cards on file.
  7. Bi-lingual/Bi-cultural preferred (English/Navajo).
