Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Counseling, the Academic Year Professional Counselor is a 9-month position that works within an increasingly diverse environment, serving students and educating them in ways to develop themselves personally, educationally, and vocationally, as well as to enhance their overall mental well-being. This position will provide counseling, crisis intervention, and overall clinical outreach/educational services to the Radford University student community during the academic year of August-May. Responsibilities include intake, assessment, time-limited individual counseling, group counseling, outreach, consultation, and crisis intervention in the areas of mental health and wellness. This position will also be responsible for collaborating with colleagues throughout the college and contributing to departmental, student services, retention, and college growth.

Required Qualifications

Advanced degree in counseling, psychology, clinical social work, or related field.

Licensed or licensed eligible in mental health-related discipline in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Experience in brief intervention, mental health crisis assessment, and group therapy.

Working knowledge of counseling theory and techniques. Knowledge of electronic health records systems.

Ability to appropriately assess and intervene in crisis situations.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.

Ability to treat all people equitably and with sensitivity and awareness of cultural differences.

Considerable knowledge of professional ethics and the ability to apply it to current work.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Self-motivated with a demonstrated understanding of the developmental issues of college students.

Must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure, independently, and in a team-oriented environment.

Additional Considerations

Prior professional clinical experience (3-5 years) working in a university/college or community counseling setting.

Demonstrated ability to provide outreach, prevention, consultation and seminar presentations.

Active license in the Commonwealth of Virginia (i.e. LPC or LCSW ).

Prior experience providing clinical supervision to interns, graduate students, or other clinical staff.
