Open Door Health Services is a not-for-profit, Federally Qualified Health Center. We provide comprehensive primary, urgent, and preventive healthcare services, as well as select specialty services and social support programs. Our physicians, nurse practitioners, behavioral health providers, and staff offer friendly, expert care for individuals and families throughout East Central Indiana--with or without insurance. Ability to pay is not a barrier to care. Services are offered at multiple locations in Muncie and Anderson.

- Downtown has been updated to reflect a tasteful, creative mixture of the modern & historical that will leave you wandering between coffee shops, pubs, and historical gems that line the streets. Our Muncie location is in the heart of this beautifully updated downtown center.

- Muncie-Delaware County, Indiana is a dynamic community located 58 miles northeast of Indianapolis in the east central portion of the state. - The Cardinal Greenway stretches 62 miles through Marion, the heart of Muncie, Richmond and most of East Central Indiana! The popular walking and biking trail is paved, but if you still get tired, there are plenty of stops and off-trail areas where you can get back to the city or explore a new community. The surrounding areas also have zip-lining, cave exploring, hiking, and beaches/reservoirs!

Coordinates department personnel and their activities to assure communication, direction, and achievement of departmental goals and objectives. Provides professional dental care for clinic patients following established standards, practices, and protocols. Upholds our Mission, Vision and Values.
Responsibilities (How this position enhances our Mission, Vision, and Values)
Mission – Improve the Quality of Life of Others:
- Provide professional dental care for clinic patients following established standards, practices, and protocols.
- Vision – ODHS preferred partner in East Central Indiana for improving the well-being of individuals and the communities in which they live:
- Performs a complete dental exam and assessment and records findings-
- Makes independent judgments in managing acute and long term dental needs of patients.
- Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
- Maintains and reviews patients records, charts and other pertinent information.
- Obtains complete dental history and physical data on patients.
- Provides monitoring and continuity of care between clinic visits as required.

- Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Evaluates tests and examination results.
- Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention and/or treatment.
- Per licensing guidelines, administers medications and injections.
- Interviews and advises patients regarding dental maintenance and oral health.
- Refers patients as appropriate.
- Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
- Manages dental emergencies.
- Complies with all agency policies and procedures concerning corporate compliance including privacy of protected health information.
- Performs related work as required and other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Dental Degree from an accredited dental school.
- Experience in a community health dental clinic setting preferred.
- Possession of an Indiana State Dental License and DEA License 21.

- Remains current in advanced practice changes within area, and where relevant, translates these findings into clinical practice.
- Maintains CPR certification and licensure requirements.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Complies with all agency policies and procedures concerning corporate compliance including privacy of protected health information.
- Performs related work as required and other duties as assigned by Dental Director or CEO.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal form.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, listening, judgment, discretion and decision-making to achieve organizational/departmental goals.

Performance Requirements: (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Knowledge of dental theory and practice to evaluate and provide patient care.
- Knowledge or organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care.
- Knowledge of dental equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
- Skill in taking dental history to assess dental condition and interpret findings.
- Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports and responding to correspondence.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance and quality control standards.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, other staff, and the public.
- Remains current in advanced practice changes within area, and where relevant, translates these findings into clinical practice.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
- Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to clinic environment. Tasks involve contact with blood or body substances.
- Requires standing, walking or sitting for long periods of time. Occasional bending, stretching or lifting up to 40 pounds.
- Requires the ability to work under stressful situations.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range or use of approved adaptive equipment.
