Behavioral Health Counselor – School-Based Contract Opportunity

Eastern Shawnee Staffing Services is seeking a qualified School-Based Behavioral Health Counselor to support students at Isleta Elementary School and T’siya Day School in New Mexico. This role supports the Bureau of Indian Education and focuses on delivering behavioral health services to students in underserved communities.
Contract Details / Schedule
- Contract position (labor-hour, all-inclusive rate)
- Shared role between two school sites (Isleta Elementary School and T’siya Day School)
- Follows 180-day academic calendar (August–May)
- Full time hours
- Core hours: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (Mountain Time)
- Direct services typically between 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- May include limited after-school activities and occasional summer services

- Experience working in schools or with children/adolescents
- Knowledge of MTSS, PBIS, or Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
- Experience working in Tribal or Indigenous communities
- Provide individual and group counseling services
- Conduct behavioral health assessments and screenings
- Develop and implement behavior intervention plans
- Lead Social Emotional Learning (SEL) activities
- Respond to crisis situations and provide intervention
- Collaborate with staff, families, and administrators
- Facilitate mental health awareness and prevention programs
- Participate in IEP, MTSS, and student support meetings
- Maintain service logs, documentation, and reports
- Analyze behavioral data and provide updates to leadership
- Support development of schoolwide behavioral health systems

Requirements
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Master’s degree or higher in counseling, social work, or a related field
- Minimum of 24 semester hours in relevant coursework
- At least 3 years of behavioral health or school-based counseling experience
- Valid New Mexico license or certification for school-based behavioral health services
- Experience providing individual and group counseling
- Strong communication, assessment, and crisis response skills
- Must be a U.S. citizen residing primarily in the United States
- Ability to obtain and maintain Bureau of Indian Education background clearance
- Knowledge of and compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and federal privacy standards
- Completion of all required federal trainings
- Strong documentation and organizational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a school-based environment
- Demonstrated professionalism and adherence to ethical standards
