The New Mexico National Guard Job ChalleNGe Academy (NMJCA) is a residential career and technical education program that serves as an optional follow-on opportunity for graduates of the New Mexico National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Academy. The NMJCA provides Associates, ages 17.5 to 20, with structured career training, leadership development, mentoring, and life-skills education within a disciplined quasi-military environment. The program is designed to prepare Associates for placement into living-wage careers, higher education, military service, or industry-recognized certification pathways while providing a no-cost residential learning environment. Upon completion of the three-to-six-month residential phase, the NMJCA continues to support graduates through job placement assistance, mentorship, and partnerships with employment opportunities throughout the state of New Mexico.
Why does the job exist?
The Residential Advisor (RA) supervisor position exists to provide direct leadership, supervision, mentorship, and accountability for cadre while maintaining a safe, structured, and disciplined quasi-military environment that supports the mission of NMJCA. The position ensures the effective execution of daily operational activities, enforcement of program standards, and the health, safety, welfare, and professional development of Associates through leadership, mentoring, physical fitness training, discipline, and student development. The Cadre/RA supervisor supports operational readiness within the Cadre/RA Department by assisting with staffing accountability, administrative oversight, continuous staff training, and the implementation of policies and procedures that promote leadership development, safety, professionalism, and overall program effectiveness.
How does it get done?
This position is responsible for supervising, managing, mentoring, and training Cadre/Residential Advisors (RA) while ensuring the effective execution of daily operational activities within the program. The incumbent delegates assignments and responsibilities to Cadre/RAs, oversees the implementation of daily program operations, and ensures all assigned tasks are completed in accordance with agency policies, procedures, and program standards. The position is responsible for enforcing Cadre/RA standards of conduct, implementing corrective actions when necessary, and ensuring Residential Advisors consistently enforce all agency rules, standards, and quasi-military expectations. The supervisor collects and maintains individual Cadre/RA and program performance data, ensures accurate entry into program databases, and utilizes performance metrics to improve operational effectiveness and staff development. The incumbent develops Residential Advisors in physical fitness in accordance with FM 7-22 Holistic Health and Fitness and trains personnel in Drill and Ceremony in Accordance with TC 3-21.5 Drill and Ceremonies, to maintain discipline, professionalism, and military bearing throughout the program. This position requires strong leadership, organizational, administrative, and supervisory skills to maintain a structured, safe, professional, and positive learning environment that supports the mission and objectives of the NMJCA while ensuring operational readiness, staff development, cross-functional coordination, and compliance with all applicable policies, protocols, and program requirements.

Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of experience working with at-risk youth, counseling assistant, teaching assistant, military experience, or Correctional facility. Two (2) years of experience as a Cadre may substitute for three (3) years of experience. Graduation from Job ChalleNGe Academy may substitute for one (1) year of experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Employment is subject to background check and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License with no limitations or restrictions. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment is conditional pending results of pre-employment drug test.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a fast-paced, structured, 24/7 residential training environment that requires extended periods of standing, walking, supervising Associates, conducting physical fitness training, and responding to operational or student-related incidents at any time during assigned shifts. Duties require regular use of computers, radios, telephones, and administrative systems, as well as frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions during training, accountability, and program activities. The position may require rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overnight operations, and emergency response support to maintain continuous supervision and operational readiness within NMJCA. Incumbents must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds.
